How much demand do you think there could be for scripts that include real coherent dialogue. I'm not meaning to insult the current writers of Porn scripts, but I guess I'm just wondering how many other people who be excited to see a porn movie that revolved around central characters and really focused on their identities as characters.
I'm an English major at a school in Maine and I'm wanting to write a full film script that would get into the characters pretty deeply but still be based on sex and the sex that the characters are having. I wouldn't want it to be a softcore either. A real hardcore porn movie that presents complex characters and tries to get you to think about them instead of just the sex in the scene or the actress as an inter-porn entity.
I just really want to know how many other people would enjoy something like that. I also would like to know where I would send it when it's finished if I was hoping for it to be made.
Any responses are appreciated.

I would watch it. I think you'd get a small, but decent, viewing audience. I think your biggest hurtle would be getting it made correctly.

I would *LOVE* to see something like this. I was actually just watching the mainstream comedy "Young People Fucking" and kept thinking- now why can't porn producers do something like this? There are no elaborate sets, no amazing costumery, no CGI- in fact, nobody leaves their bedrooms even once and yet they manage to tell full stories through great dialogue (and great acting), and to make the sex integrated into the storyline, not separate from it. I kept yelling at the screen "Now why can't somebody make this hardcore!?".
Now, having said that . . .
Is there a demand for such porn scripts? Yes and no. Like Flash said, there's a small but dedicated minority of viewers who would love to see such a script (and probably more who would be interested in it). But as for porn producers themselves- I'm not so sure. If you were going to do it, I think you'd probably have the most success doing it yourself or finding somebody who has the same goals as you do in producing such a film- not trying to sell your script to a porn studio whose work has never been like that, and who will most likely slaughter your effort. Finding the right producer would be the key trick.

I would, I've seen a few Wicked Pictures films where the dialogue has been pretty good and it's definitely made the film more enjoyable for me. Yeah I'd be interested.

I am a guy who watches mostly all-sex and vignette porn, but I do watch a porn feature every now and then. And my impression is that most porn screenplays are either written by the director or by someone else already working in porn. I'm guessing feature makers aren't overly eager to purchase original screenplays from people off of the street. Maybe if you wrote some fan mail to some of your favorite directors and developed a relationship with them over time, something could happen. But you'd always want to view it as a hobby, and not a way to make money. And don't be offended if they cut a lot. I've also gotten the impression that even when working with scripts written by the director, lots of stuff will get cut in table readings, rehearsals, and of course, editing.

I've tried to sell a couple of scripts. It's hard to break in.
My biggest success was with Wicked. I pitched some titles and loglines to Joy King. She said she wanted to see three of them. I sent one in so as not to overwhelm her. Twice she told me that she would read it "This afternoon" or "This weekend."
In neither case, did she follow through. I ended up calling Heth, who does PR at Wicked, and asked her about this. She said, "I've had a script on Joy's desk for six months and she hasn't looked at it yet. I work here, she sees me everyday."
I've pitched titles and log lines to others, and didn't even get a response. Shylar at Vivid doesn't seem to answer his phone, and hasn't responded to any emails. Janeen at New Sensations responds by telling me, "I'll forward your email to the appropriate person," but nothing happens after that.
Once before pitching Joy King, I pitched one idea to some who both acts and directs for Wicked. He didn't respond to my email, but when I later pitched the same idea to Joy, she responded with, "It's funny, ----- ------ just pitched exactly the same idea last week." I didn't tell her about my email to Mr. ------, because I didn't want to burn any bridges by making unsubstantiated allegations.
My guess is that if you want to write scripts for porn, you will need to actually spend some time in porn valley, getting to know people in the business. But keep in mind, even if you got a job for Wicked, that would be no guarantee that you could get a script read within six months.

I would very much like to see that. The older I get the more I yearn for some sort of story line or at least a set-up for a scene. "Here's a naked girl masturbating, here come the big erect cocks," just doesn't do it for me like it used to. I really want to see people writing scenes, or ideas for stories, or even telling a real story in the "Story Time" forum.

Don't allow yourself to get too discourage with this. I truly believe that there are a growing number of porn fans who are also non-porn movie aficionados as well, and would appreciate some decent efforts in the area of dialogue and plots. For those of us who appreciate some intelligence and good writing to compliment good fucking, the Wicked work of Stormy and Brad Armstrong seem to be the best options. Stormy has actually produced a couple of mystery/crime type flicks (see "Two" and "Taken") in which the ending mattered and was not thoroughly predictable.
People most often get what they settle for. The more porn producers offer porn with decent plots and dialogue, the more porn consumers will raise the bar on the demand for more intelligent porn movies. Porn does not have to be brainless.
It reminds me of a scene from Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" film. Malcolm X (portrayed by Denzel Washington) was absorbing the following lesson from his then-religious leader Elijah Muhammad who took a glass of clear water and then dump a bottle of ink in the water. While noting how polluted the water was with the ink, he pointed out that people will drink it if that is all that is made available to them.
While that particular lesson concerned religious doctrine, it can also apply to how a mass produced mediocre artform can desensitize people to higher quality art. Such has it been with porn throughout its history. People have been fed a steady diet of brainless fucking and quarter-baked plots, dulling the audience into a sense of appreciating nothing more than the sex. I am not judging those that prefer plotless porn any more than I do not judge mainstream movie who prefer movie that don't require a lot of thinking. I am simply pointing out that there is an audience for a quality porn/plot driven genre as well.
The Academy Award winning moving Monster Ball, showed the possibilities for a good mix of quality porn and plot. Although the sex in that moving was largely distorted and fleeting, it did show the potential there can be for raising the quality of the art of porn.
I truly believe someone like yourself will have a breakthrough with some quality scripts and join the ranks of Stormy and Armstrong, and develop an audience that will sustain such a porn/plot driven genre. It is only a matter of time. Don't give up on your efforts.

The below is actually something I mentioned in another Porn Pool thread (see "Black Women are not embraced by White porn makers?"), but it relates to this topic as well.
....if someone is looking for an interesting script idea: I just read an a fascinating book called the "The Hemings of Montecello" which is about the slave family of President Thomas Jefferson. Sally Hemings was President Jefferson's mistress after his wife Martha died and the slave mistress had several children by Jefferson. The outstanding book by Annette Gordon-Reed (it won the National Book Award in 2008) deals a lot with the colonial period phenomenon of slave holder having sexual relations with their slaves -- some forced and some by consenting slave women who sometimes found it put them in a better position with their slave masters.
This also getting into an area of another topic thread I have been engaged in concerning the desire for better quality (even serious) porn scripts. This would be a ground-breaking porn movie. I would think it would be a great casting opportunity for fair-skinned black porn stars such as Jasmine Cashmire (who has already show some decent acting abilities in the porn feature "Ramsom"), Mona Devine, Obession or others.

This thread has some discussion about screenwriting--I hope you find it useful.
My own advice is that you contact the stars/directors/studios personally. I met Taylor Wane for the first time back in 2002 when she appeared at the Vintage And Model Pinup show in Chicago. I asked if she was looking for any screenplays for her production company. She said yes, and a year later, when she appeared at that year's Chicago Glamourcon, I gave her my first screenplay. She liked it and bought it.
The downside is she has yet to make it into a movie. I think she's mostly busy shooting content for her website and making personal appearances. I haven't bugged her too much about it, as it's not like I'm paying her to make the movie for me. Still it's better that I would have gotten just blindly sending scripts out to studios and hoping they read them.
Then there was my attempt to pitch to Elizabeth Starr's company. I tried e-mails, snail mails, more e-mails, more snail mails--nothing. I offered her a screenplay based on the Hypnosis fetish--something the "House Of 100 Fetishes" didn't cover. She didn't even write back to tell me she wasn't interested.
I hope you have better luck than me selling your screenplay, and I hope it gets made into a movie. Let us know what happens.
