Putting somebody into rehab before they are ready does no good. A person has to want to quit before it works. In this case it is like the Zen saying When the student is ready, the master will appear .
It is a self responsibility thing. In some industries, because of the dangers posed to others, people need to be tested and removed from their jobs. Rehab is always an individual's responsibility. Hopefully help is there when they are ready.
A person letting something ruin their life is also their choice. The living of life can only be done by the individual themselves. Ultimately a "productive" life forced on a person is of no value to themselves or society.
These are also the words of a person who quit drugs cold turkey with no withdrawal symptoms, on a whim. I cannot say I am more productive either way.
