I guess that depends who you ask but I personally think there is a huge difference. All porn stars are adult performers but very few adult performers ever make it as far as porn stars. You have to have the talent and put in the years to be called a porn star which means that I will never call most performers starting in the industry today porn stars because they will never have the talent necessary for that and those that do will never be able to put in the years.

In the civilian world, anyone who has done any amount of big-studio onscreen porn is labeled a "pornstar".
And even a prolific amateur (such as Susan Reno or Creampie Cathy) would be called a pornstar.
Within the world of porn fans/performers, the points by pat362 apply.
