Hi,
My first time here. Is it normal in the porn industry to get an std like gonorreah, clamydia, etc get cured and back to work? I've heard many fem porn stars get stds and many times they repeat but they continue to work like normal. Nina Hartley got Gonorreah 4 times in her porn career, she said it when I attended a seminar about porn (The Annex), recently a famous fem porn star got again Gonorreah (her fourth time this year) and still she is working fine. So my question is: Is this normal? I know there aren't HIV cases recenlty but stds are a lot. Just want to know your thoughts about this.

It is a hazzard of the Biz, and anyone who say otherwise is only fooling themselves.
That said, it is harder to catch HIV than Gon, Chlam, and others. Partially because of the way it's transmitted also because of the prevalance of the diseases in question. Although I'm sure some will debate that.
In my opinion if your gonna take the chance eventually it'll hit someone. Though I'd rather perform with someone who's tested than someone I just picked up at the bar. That's just me.
(Disclaimer, I am not a doctor, and have also ingested a 6 pack at this time)

Many performers do in fact contract one of the lesser diseases, stay off the set for 5-7 days and then jump right back in.

There are also performers who have been in the biz a number of years that have never contracted anything.

It has much to do with who you are willing to work with and what chances you are willing to take.

STDs are an occupational hazard and they can cause serious medical problems later.

When your test turns positive for any STD you're of course not allow to perform.

The AIM provides you a prescription, usually antibiotics, for a period of 3 till 8 days.

8 days after taking the medicine the AIM can provide you if you wish a certificate certifying that you have been on treatment for the last 8 days or so and can even add a sticker from the medicine you've been treated with.

That certificate is made to allow you to work again cause another DNA test will show you positive still as a result of the bacteria death cells in your blood.

Voila !

Sorry I forget...
It is true that some of us has never contracted any STDs during the work !
For example, apparently Steeve Holmes has never ever been sick !
I can't unfortunately say so for my self especially when I was working in USA !

That is one of the reasons I like pretty much my position now behind the camera !
Especially if your girlfriend has nothing to do with the porn industry like mine !

I think it's called a PCRDNA test (letters elude me at the moment), which also checks for gyno & chlym (in the urine?), in addition to a blood test.

PCR (Polymer Chain Reaction) is a very sensitive and precise (and expensive) method for directly scaning DNA/RNA traces of the intruder, mostly a virus or bacteria, on the other side you have an indirect antibody tests, which test antibodies, that your body develops in reaction to the intuder.
PCR is known that can give a false positive results too.

Nowadays for HIV the best testing used is HIV 1,2 antibodies test minimal! 2-3 months after last (risky)intercourse. The sensitivity is 99,8%. But after 6 months it has to be repeated to be 100% sure! in order to eliminate any testing errors that might happen. Direct PCR HIV testing can be used earlier (week(s)) after infection) but usually only in indicated cases (pregnant mothers, children,..). Its also used to screen infected people for amount of virus in their body. Beware of any "fast-quick-instant" tests available! They are not reliable, can give false results and have low sensitivity.

For gonorhea, the test used is from from urine (or discharge, if you really caught it :-(( ), can be done days after inf. (antibiotics used recently before test can erase the result or mess up with it). Positive test must be confirmed.

For Chlamydia, which is really spread all over the world, including porn bussiness, the best test used is a PCR test from urine (there are strict conditins before testing like dont pee min 4-5hrs before, dont have any intercourse and). It has good sensitivity and is commonly used and its reliable and also good for screening. The results are known within a week or so. Another method is a cultivation from urethral swab BUT must be done properly (same contitions like PCR + must include infected cells from the urethra or any other infected part). You can also test antibodies, but they vary as infection is going and it has to be used only as a complement to above tests.

For Syphilis the only recently good sensitive test is RRR/TPHA combo. Which is a combination of both indirect/direct methods and can be done week(s) after inf.

There are other STDs like hepatitis (liver biochemy tests + antibodies), human papiloma virus which cause genital warts (mostly PCR test sets), ureaplasmatas+trichomonia (microbiological cultivation from swab or urine), etc...

In my experience most of ppl in bussiness are using only a so called commercial test sets provided by hospitals or medical stations with antibodies hiv tests included, but I think many of them dont keep the conditions for example 2-3 month period after last risky intercourse.

I think this post is already itself a good reason to use condom whenever you can. Happy day and practice safe sex.

So...let me ask this question:

If a porn star tests positive for Herpes, and Herpes can STILL be spread even if you're not having an outbreak, why then isn't that performer banned from performing again? I would think that Herpes would put you on permanent vacation the same as HIV. Not to say that it's a life threatening disease in the same manner as HIV, but if caught it CANNOT be cured.

I think on the one side almost everybody in the bussiness is
familiar with the hazard or they simply dont care, because it is still worth (not only mention money, but money is the biggest benefit)...
...on the other side sex was always about "loose manners"...so what do you expect?

But when someone unfortunately get infected with lifetime disease like hiv, they got hardly hit their mind...believe me. But what they wanted they got it.

Personally, I like this bussiness, mostly this people, atmospere, etc., but when comes to the action I would rather choose the position behind the camera too.

DIZMGOTDAJIZM: To answer your question, how many girls will confess they got herpes when they know it can afect their bookings or acting at all?

Do you have any idea how common the disease is? Per the CDC, about 20% of the adult population of the US has genital herpes. The statistics in porno-land are probably a lot higher.

"Polymerase" (not polymer) Chain reaction is a procedure invented by Nobel Laureate Kary Mullis. Krry Mullis also believes that HIV isn't the sole cause of AIDS. Based on my own research on the subject over the years, I tend to believe him. Visit www.aliveandwell.org for more info.

It wouldn't help that much. Herpes and HPV only require skin contact to spread. If they banned performers who have them from working, their talent pool would be decimated. Considering neither disease is (usually) fatal, I expect they'll just continue ignoring them.

Where are your facts to support this? Sure, it's common hearsay that the majority of talent has STD's, smokes crack and/or meth...blah, blah. However, just like the argument of proving pregnancy, you're trying to fight something that doesn't concern you (and therefore you haven't solid evidence of), unless of course you're part of that talent pool.

It's better just left unsaid, rather than basing useless conclusions unless you yourself have a reason to worry about contracting the disease from a porn performer.

Hey, I'm not insinuating that all of the performers have HERPES.....there's no reason for you guys to get so testy with each other. LOL I just thought that when the stars go for testing that they tested for ANY and ALL STD's....I didn't know that having Herpes could be concealed. I guess I'm just ignorant to these things.

Are you not paying attention? I'm the one saying that they _shouldn't_ ban performers with Herpes or genital warts. As for hearsay: Do you really think that disease rates _aren't_ going to be higher, for those minor yet incurable diseases? If I thought there was any way to prove it, I'd be willing to bet my life savings that they were. Then again, I can't _prove_ universal gravitation either, but I still think it's pretty darn likely to be true. :-P

I'd venture the only thing "chaotic" about you is your mouth, bud. That said, what you said is based on hearsay, regardless how much supporting 'likely' info you have.

I doubt they conceal it, but the disease is so widespread even in the "civilian" population, and so non-debilitating, they probably don't they bother screening for it. I'd like to _think_ that everyone in porno land knows whether they have it, and informs their partners, and lets them choose whether to perform with them or not. I'd also like to think that truth, jusice, and apple pie will prevail over tyranny and mullet hairdoes. That's just the kind of idealistic guy I am, I guess.

Sorry that you're embarrased then dude.

Like I said, take it offlist. I don't hide, but you conseal yourself to onlist insults & no balls. I've been here long enough that most people who matter know I don't give a rat's ass what others think about me.

Dude, you're the one who started arguing with me. Based on your own misunderstandings about what you _thought_ I said. As long as you keep pressing that argument, I'll keep responding accordingly. You don't like that, either let it drop, or start arguing a little more intelligently, based on what the other person (to whit, me) _actually_said_.
....

Nope. Too easy.

Fun as this was, I'm off to bed, then off the internet for a long weekend. You want to continue this idiotic argument, feel free, but you'll have to wait for my scathing retort till monday.

Thanks for all replies. I can say a name of a female porn star JASMINE TAME who got Gonorreah 4 times and the last time she had she didn't say and still performed, all talent who worked with her got pissed and don't want to work with her again. This is just one case. why is she still in the business If she continues to get an std? why is doing to get an std that often? I think If a talent gets an std more than once should really be banned from working. Just my two cents.

She's not shy about her urge to fuck. What she does on her own time is none of our business.

BTW, was it imperative that you really drop a name like that?
