I believe i might have the answer, still just want to confirm. Based on the ability to buy from the internet have all the stores in NewYork City, Chicago and California that selled porn movies in the past gone?

Yes they are still around. Internet mail-order cannot match the instant gratification experience of walking into a store and walking out with a bag full of porn. And internet buying can't match the serendipitous experience of browsing thousands of physical DVD boxes and discovering stuff you wouldn't think to type into a searchbar.

^Yeah the Hollywood movie rental chain stores with the "adults only" back room are gone. But the 100% porn stores are still around. I think it's too many to generalize which states have what.

I live just north of NYC and the stores are all gone, one remaining store 6 miles from me closed last August and is still vacant. There was a time when opening a video store, carrying VHS was one of the fastest growing businesses, it was very clean, no waste and cheap to startup. That was in the late 80s and early 90s.
The introduction of the DVD, the proliferation of home computers and the Internet really killed the video stores. The stores that are still around will not exist much longer.

There are definitely some around in the Seattle area, because yesterday I spotted the following ad on Craigslist when I was scanning for Wordpress developer jobs. By the looks of this post, I think they are clearly on their last legs. I think it is the single most depressing job posting I've ever seen.
Before I post it, here's the breakdown:
 You’d be a counter person and a video porn store, which is a part of the porn industry that is hard to believe even exists any more
 They are asking for people with experience in both selling lingerie AND developing wordpress sites
 The pay is a grand total of 44 cents an hour above minimum wage
 You must be “flexiable” (must be an obscure porn fetish or something)
 You must “Have the intention of long-term employment with us”
 And the best part: “Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.” Recruiters across the land are going. “Shit, and this was so perfect for my client!”

, ...I can't help but agree. My brother always knew I had a bag of porn when I came home after having ridden my bike. Maybe I had some sort of look or something or I would dart straight for my room. Hilarious; memories!

take into account many areas have gotten sanctimonious and have created new zoning legislation to eradicate adult businesses. Yes I said businesses which also applies to strip clubs, noveltie stores aka clothing, toys etc. It's outrageous.

The zoning rules suck! I would have to go two hours out of my way to get to a porn only store to only return the porn the next day, surely they are not making money on their rentals.

^ Not sure what anal sex has to do with this discussion, but I can say we have 4-5 stores around here. The problem is their stock is OLD and in many cases poor quality. The one I frequent the most has a small stock of late release stuff that comes from only a few studios. Not the selection of hardcore swallowing, teens, barely legal and other hot types that interest me. Half the time I would get there and the 1-2 titles I wanted to rent were out, rented by someone who got there before me. I still go sometimes but honestly I have a much better collection of DVDs that I bought online over the past year. I can search for what I want and get all the teen swallow discs I want.
The store closest to me closed a few years ago and so now I have to drive to the next nearest store, both to rent and to return. It's a bit of a hassle now.
Someone above said that the experience of the store allows us to discover movies we wouldn't otherwise type into a search bar. That's a very good point.

There are still a few places in Manhattan. Not like it used to be, but, at least around Times Square, several good options.

fabulous store near albany, ny called video environment.
been there forever. has thousands of porn dvd's.
rents them and sells them. has new releases back to classics.
don't know how much longer they'll be around.
they and other existing places should be supported.

In San Francisco they sell dvds at a lot of the strip clubs. Plus many of the feature dancers sell their own too.

Yes they're still around, but toys, lingerie, and sexy outfits, etc. usually occupy more shop floor space than movies do, if that is any indicator of the relative profitability to the stores of the different merchandise categories. I have no idea who uses video arcades now, and how profitable they could be, but I have still seen them.

^ It's the same in Las Vegas. The few shops I go to I continually see the DVD sections get smaller and smaller. One shop has even stopped selling new releases from what I've seen and are marking down their DVD inventory trying to get rid of it. The other stores have cut way back on the amount of new releases they get. It seems that due to the internet porn DVD sales continue to shrink.
