After suffering more blows to her ego and self-esteem than most women could stand in a lifetime Emily Stewart (portrayed by Kelley Menighan Hensley) engages in a reckless and unprotected one-night stand with an anonymous businessman she meets in a hotel bar. After thoroughly enjoying the encounter, Emily is first offended, then merely shocked and curious that the stranger has left a tidy sum of money for her on the bureau.

With a sense of desirability and power that she hasn't felt in quite sometime, Emily embarks on a new career avenue: Tabloid newspaper editor by day, call girl by night. In the midst of her sex work freelancing and pursuing new clients at an upscale hotel, she runs afoul of a Madam who operates with a stable of high class women working all of the business hotels in the area (Cheri Love, portrayed by Robin Mattson). She is very impressed with Emily, and recruits her on the spot.

As the days pass, Emily begins to have difficulty juggling the complicated demands of her dual career. Additionally, it is proving nearly impossible to conceal her evening activities from her mother (Dr. Susan Stewart, portrayed by Marie Masters) and Dusty Donovan (portrayed by Grayson McCouch), her partner in the newspaper enterprise. After one trick becomes violent and beats Emily, Dusty discovers her secret, but agrees to keep it concealed, partly for Emily's well-being and partly for the hope of sustaining the viability of their business endeavor.

Emily meets with a new "client" who wants to engage in satin-draped intercourse with her while watching a hardcore pornographic video. Emily is shocked to discover that her younger sister Allison, for whom she donated the egg for her now infertile mother to be able to give birth, is the star, having fallen on hard times in Los Angeles with no other viable options to pursue for her livelihood and blossoming crystal meth habit. Emily informs the madam Cherie that she is quitting and heads to Los Angeles to find and save Allison, with Dusty hot on her trail to provide unwanted but much needed protection.
