Is it illegal to look at pornographic images of children over the internet ? When I speak of children, I mean girls of between 5-12 years of age ?

i never said i was doing it. i asked whether a person could have gone to jail for having viewed images of underage girls. i need advise on this, that is why i am asking for help on this.

Yeah, you can go to jail. Talking about kiddie porn on an adult forum is not really advisable and can bring negative attention to an otherwise great board. FYI.

If you stumbled across images (say you searched for a dvd titled 'Lolita') and didn't download anything you should be ok.
Authorities are interested in people who upload/download images, swap images, pay to access images etc...
They could also see your internet history, so if you repeatedly clicked on blatant links for child porn it would be evident through a search of your hard drive.

It is illegal because the definition of pornography is very weird in this case. Not even renowned photographers can safely take and publish photos of naked children even if the purpose is only documentary. Personally I can't see how natural/tasteful looking photographs of naked children could be considered porn. I mean, there's weird people jerking off to anything, don't post pics of your beloved little pet online because there may be someone looking at it and wanting to fuck it.
And it has happened that people go to jail for having a few photos of naked children on their computer. I could probably go down for having a few nudes of Kate Moss in my old computer, think she was only 15 on some of those... but it's probably cool in Europe and especially in fashion.
