But my question is what have been the major sales disappointments in the industry recently? The Gigli or Ishtar of porn, so to speak? I just find it fascinating to find out about a film that people thought would be a sure-fire hit and ended up becoming a fiasco. Edited by - RobbieNomi on Oct 7 2006 [Link] |

If you mean artistically, well, that's another story, and in adult entertainment, an extremely, extremely subjective one at that. |
| darkside762000 Member United Kingdom 91 Posts 3/06 | I'd dare say there are a few that haven't performed to expectations either artistically or financially, but they all probably made a decent profit when all's said and done. |

Whatever you make, it's going to get pumped through the same predictable and limited distribution chain, with more or less the same result. There's no financial insentive to take big financial risks in porno, so there are no big flops. Edited by - TonyC on 10/7/2006 4:42:07 PM |

Decided not to see it cause they heard the movie was bad. Now, most porn budgets are small. A movie like that however has a budget well above the normal. ___________________________________________________ That's a mainstream analogy that doesn't really work in the adult world. A large budget, couples friendly adult film fills a much-needed financial void - it's a valuable product that can go to markets lower budget gonzo porn cant. What WOULD be interesting would be if someone would pull out the stops and create a lavish, $250,000 shot-on-film hard-edged gonzo. The budget didn't help - he had too many scenes that seemed to be set up for nice looking stills, while I was trying to watch a movie. |

Even indies magnitudes larger budgets, it seems. ____________________________ Even smaller, direct-to-DVD indie releases tend to ship more than 2,000 to 5,000 units out the door initially, hence economically they're able to recoup that higher budget. I remember when the first "Puppetmaster" shipped, Charlie moved over 30,000 units initially. It would be interesting to know the last time an adult DVD had that many pre-orders. |

| HarryWild Member Make me believe 622 Posts 2/05 | It was the worse porn I have seen in 10 years. It had no setup at all other then a little dancing routine of 20 seconds and then they kind of went at it without any plot, setup or anything. Plus all the scenes were identical from what I could tell fastwarding the entire DVD in fifteen minutes. No passion at all; and the males were like zombies. I love to give it to someone as their first porno. What a waste of the actresses that were pretty much top rated. They were: Alketra Blue, Courtney Simpson, Courtney Cummezs and two other stars that I forgot! If you want to see something poorly done; this is it! It had good lighting and sets; but the direction was just plan poor! |
| RichB Member 65 Posts 4/05 | It was a Andrew Blake-like directed (but nothing to do with Andrew Blake or even Michael Ninn for that matter) video which never even made it to a finished master. 'Mr. Andrew Blake-like director' had been retained as a director/producer by said unnamed company and given vast amounts (by porn standards) of up-front money. The video was emulating the mainstream success of the Alien franchise and required extensive costuming and special effects. After filming a rather visually amazing and very very long scene in which the Alien and a damsel confront one another, Mr. Andrew Blake-like director sent the uncut footage into the company and requested even more cash to finish. The scene, while visually pretty impressive, had little jerk-off potential and could not, in itself, be made into a complete film. The company, feeling squeezed by this notable director replied not with more finance, but with a summons to see them in court since Mr. Andrew Blake-like director had not obviously fufilled his part of their production agreement. As a result, as far as I know, this expensive content sits atop someones desk as a reminder...to be careful who of us wanna-be-Andrew Blake-like directors get mucho up-front money to make their magnum opus. Anyone wanna' loan me a cool 100 thou for a bitchin' Mission Impenetratable spin-off? Edited by - RichB on 10/28/2006 11:50:02 AM |
