I imagine some producers still pay cash but the bigger companies must pay by cheque, no? Which means a paper trail, which means the company has records that could be traced back to the girls. The reason I ask is that my impression of a lot of the girls (but by no means all) is that financials aren't their strong suit. So if you're getting paid cash or cheques all the time, are they really keeping track and paying their taxes? If they're not on payroll the companies won't be doing it for them. Anyone know? [Link] |

Said quarterly tax payments should also include the 15.3% self-employment tax. That's the full amount of Social Security and Medicare, and it's borne entirely by the individual (an employee has half of his or hers paid by the employer). If the employer files his 1099s with the IRS and the performer doesn't file a return, or the amount reported by the performer doesn't to the 1099 amounts, the IRS will send the producer or studio a lien, and the producer or studio to the performer will be asked to forward a significant portion of the payments due the performer to the IRS until the lien is satisfied. If the performer is no longer performing for that producer or studio, the lien will follow the performer's Social Security number around until the IRS finds a place where that person is currently working, and the lien will attach there. I pay most of my company's workers as independent contractors and have received several tax liens in the last few years. My guess is that, as a group, porn performers are even less diligent than my workers. [Link] |
