Could it be that the porn you enjoy watching, showcases shorter girls more often? I shoot skinny girls and even though I actively find smaller girls, most of the ones I've filmed are 5'4 and above.
Most american pornstars are 21 and above, trying to play younger, not the other way around. In the late 70's and 80's, there was almost no age checks and IDs were easily faked. A lot of girls were younger, trying to play older.
I do agree that the performances seem far more passionate back then. Perhaps because it wasn't seen as a job, but something you wanted to do in the nascent and mostly underground industry.
The quality of girls has gone down. The industry is letting anyone join porn regardless of their looks. It's like there are no criteria to get into porn. And new Performers aren't enthusiastic except for a very few like Kenzie Anne. New actresses don't have much plastic work done on them and very few of them have nice legs and ass. The newbies in the early 2000's like Jenna Haze, Monica Sweetheart, Taylor Rain were really passionate about sex.

Clearly I'm not the only one who see this. They just don't seem to care today about the "art" of making porn.
