Some Latin American countries go even as low as 14. The ideal behind the age of consent is to protect "minors" from being unfairly sexually exploited. While this provides a basis for child protection laws to be drafted to deter sexual predators, it is grossly unfair and inaccurate. There is no hard and fast rule on when a boy or a girl becomes sexually mature, and the age of consent refuses to acknowledge that young people do develop sexual interests at an early age. I don't think it is realistic for a person to act "virginal" and suddenly explode into a sexual being on the day he or she turns 18. Very often, "adults" become "victims" of sexually-active "minors". While "adults" are expected to be mature and resist any advances by "minors", it is often difficult to do so in the heat of the moment. That does not make the adult a paedophile or a sexual predator, just a grown person with normal sexual needs and responses. This in no way justifies actual sexual predators deliberately preying on young victims. I'm just saying that sometimes, 16 year olds can be more sexually mature and active than 25 year olds, and the so-called legal age of 18 should not be used as the gold standard for determining sexual maturity. I am not an advocate for paedophilia. I am just speaking from my own experiences. I became interested in sex at age 11, but I did not engage in sexual activities until I was in my twenties. I know of tweens (10-12 year olds) having sex with each other or with older partners, and I have friends in their late twenties abstaining until they get married. I feel strongly against adults preying on children, but I'm sympathetic to those who have a true-love relationship across an age barrier. [Link] |

At the age of 18 you can do everything you want , you're a complete adult. Because young people are relatively powerless in society we need to be more careful to ensure they are not forced into unwanted sexual activity against their will. I would need to be confident that the law gave sufficient safeguards to young people before I could support your suggestion to eliminate the age altogether. In many societies there would need to be improved sex education in schools too. On the "informed consent" side we have clear evidence that most people are capable of desiring, initiating and consenting to sexual activity before the age of 18. There's no rocket science in it. If you are capable of deciding you want to eat a hamburger, then you are capable of deciding you want to rub your genitals against another person. If you are capable of riding a bicycle on the road then you are smart enough to learn about contraception and safe sex. [Link] |

Very interesting. Women by nature are attracted to stronger, better, successful men - just natural selection to get the best genes for their offspring. And most of the women if given the choice of having a choice of a strict monogamous relationship with a weak man and a polygamous relationship with a mixture of strong and weak men would choose polygamy and in polygamy the weak man was always jealous and was left behind that was just the way it was for centuries in almost every civilization. Weak man invented LAW so he could have his share of women as well. I'm Indian and when I was always fascinated by sex in ancient India (During the age of the Kamasutra) because there was no law governing sex before the Aryans took over. There are positions and techinques and graphic depictions in tantric sex and kamasutra where upto six men give simultaneous pleasure to a woman.
