| Kimi Lixx Senior Member 2012 Posts 6/01 | The saline implants tend to "pucker" more when filled to the manufacturer's optimal level for breakage, so many doctors (mine included) advise their patients to agree to "overfill" the implant. That does avoid a lot of the puckering, but then you end up with a saline filled ball instead of a mooshie squishy toy. It's not very compressable to begin with, then you get the scarring/healing/encapsulation and the boobies tend to that softball on the chest look even from very mild encapsulation. It's worse if you have high profile implants (narrower base, fuller sides - they project forward more). I didn't have problems because my implants were saline, I had other issues. When silicone became available to me (before the FDA approval - I got a medical approval, which was always available to some women) I went for it because I was changing as many variables as possible in the hopes of a better outcome. Things I have noticed about the silicone vs saline: the silicone holds body heat better than the saline - used to be I could always feel that my boobs were cooler than the rest of my body, now I don't notice that as often (+1 silicone) silicone moves more gradually than saline - used to be when I changed position the implant flowed quickly (and naturally) into the new shape my body had assumed, now it takes a few seconds and sometimes I feel it to be very unnatural (+1 saline) silicone does have a closer to natural density, when you grab the silicone boobie there is some resistance in the implant, but not the resistance of the overfilled shell of the saline implant (think like grabbing an overfilled water balloon vs one of those stress reliever gel balls) (+1 silicone) because the silicone implant is not overfilled the standing shape of the breast is very natural (+1 silicone) because the silicone implant is not overfilled the puckering is obvious in any bent over position, on the other hand the overfilled saline implant looked wildly unnatural from "below" (-1 silicone, -1 saline - they both just suck at this) fitting a bra seems easier with silicone implants, the saline didn't compress into the shape of the bra and forced me to find a bra that was the shape of the implant (+1 silicone) So, that's my current take on the implants. There's a doctor here in Akron who recently started doing research into a new type of shell for breast implants. Like cardiac stents and lots of other implants the biggest hurdle with breast implants is avoiding scarring (encapsulation). Other types of implants have been improved significantly since their original designs, but very little has been changed with breast implants. A better shell would definitely be an awesome advance. For all of you who are against breast implants, please, keep in mind that there are a lot of women who choose implants after a disfigurement or mastectomy with nothing more than the hopes of feeling "normal".
