I just saw HBO's Pornucopia and thought it was awesome! The first episode focused on newcomer Katie Morgan, and Jenna Haze , and the industry within the San Fernando Valley.
I think it's so neat when you can get some real perspective on the lives of porn stars and what goes on inside of the industry. I can't wait for future episodes.
I'm curious to hear what other people thought.

Yeah, I caught it too. It was okay. Here are my thoughts:
Jenna Haze is gorgeous and seems very sweet. Unfortunately if I had to listen to that laugh of hers all the time, suicide or homicide may be the only alternatives.
It was hilarious to learn that Katie got caught smuggling 100 pounds of Marijuana over the border. Maybe that's old news, but I never heard of that.
The part I liked best was when they asked everyone about their first time doing a scene. It was a nice little montage. I wish there was more things like that. Hopefully it won't just be one per show.

I have to agree on the Jenna Haze laugh. I was reaching for my gun and the show was only thirty minutes.
I think this is an interesting beginning to the series. Hopefully, the other five parts are just as good.
I hope they interviewed stars that were popular a few years ago and not just today's stars. Stars from the ascension of porn rather that those enjoying the fruit today.

I would have to agree, as much as I love Jenna Haze, that laugh was killing us too. We watched the first episode in a group of about 10 porners and all of us were about to kick the TV.
Lookin' forward to future episodes though. Not just because they're doing a feature on KSEX but also because this show has put such a positive spin on the business. Nice to see mainstream doing a shoot that is not aimed at putting porn down.

I'm a right about this figure? In retrospect, it seems kinda high.
It was a pretty good show and I think it gave people not too familiar with the industry a nice "inside" look. These Real Sex type documentaries on HBO are usually pretty good. I wish it was 60 mins and I can't wait to see more of Stormy that's for sure.

I swear, it was some insane number like that. Maybe I heard it wrong, I dunno.
Ok I just read elsewhere that it was indeed 100 pounds. I tried to link but it didn't work.
I'm really glad you liked the show. :) We all spent a lot of time on it last year, and it's really nice to see some thing positive come from the main stream. YAY :)
And yes for the record, it was 100 lb of pot. oops, well lesson learned right? :p
Anyway, I can't wait to see more, I think they did a really good job with this. :)
Jenna's laugh is definately annoying, but she is sooooooo gorgeous that I really did'nt mind. If I were her very lucky boyfriend I wouldn't complain.
I also hope that they feature some of the stars from years past. I'm really excited to see what's in store.

OK, call me crazy, but no I really wouldn't complain. I would have no problem having a relationship with a girl who makes her living as a porn star. I also think thousands of anonymous guys is a bit of an exaggeration. From what I understand, and maybe I'm wrong, but most girls work with a relatively small pool of guys.
KSEX, from what I remember, the segment with Katie Morgan was featuring newcomers to porn, and what they might experience as an introduction to the biz. So, in that regard, yes, "newcomer Katie Morgan."
But that's NOT her job. Once she hooked up with her boyfriend, she began doing only girl/girl work. I'm going to assume that you didn't see the show that is being discussed in the thread because a significant portion of Jenna's segment discussed the fact that she would be less popular and make less money because of this decision.

I saw the episode with Stormy the other night and though it was good. I thought I saw Wankus somewhere in thyat episode too. I missed the Jenna Haze show though. When did it air?
I've seen both episodes and after catching the Stormy one last night I have to say...
It still amazes me every time I see Stormy. When I first saw her in October of 2000 in SCORE magazine, I had NO idea she would be what she is to me today.
Goddamn, this woman is fine. If people could get JENNA off the brain or if she would just go away, the adult business would belong completely to STORMY.

The second show seemed like more of the same. Nothing great, but better than re-runs of Full House.
Stormy was nice, Katie was as cute as ever, Devinn was smokin' and Jenna was sexy and funny.
Best moment: When Jenna said something to the effect of " Yeah, I'm fuckin rich" while laughing. It was great because it seemed like the perfect self-deprecating kind of way to answer what was most likely a retarded question.

Jenna, maybe I phrased that the wrong way, sorry if you took offense. What I should have said was, if you weren't so popular and permanently ingrained in everyone's psyche or if you just one day decided to hang it all up and walk away, your successor would be Stormy. Simple as that.
I've known people in your business to have extremely thin skin and my comments did sound as though they were leaning on the negative side, so I understand your outburst, but believe me, that's not at all what I meant.
Fortunately for us, Jenna has reached a popularity level that puts her on par with the biggest celebrities working today. With her popularity so too came broader acceptance for porn. I sincerely doubt that porn fans will ever find an advocate who has promoted porn as positively as Jenna when she finally does decide to "hang it up."
I don't think I have to defend how I feel about Jenna. A quick search of her name and my posts will reveal these words I posted about her in this very forum not too long ago...And I completely forgot to mention Devinn Lane last night as well. She really looked good enough to eat.

Both of the shows that have aired so far have continued the standard porno documentary practice of unquestioningly citing statistics that have no apparent source, other than having been pulled out of somebody's ass.
Was the Johnathan Morgan "casting call" bit completely staged for the HBO cameras? Do *any* porn movies actually have open casting calls?
I haven't seen Pornucopia yet, but I recall that in the DVD extras for "Hercules", they showed open casting for that movie. I assumed it was real. Kimi was there.
I think it's so cool that HBO did this show so well. The main stream does so many shows that twist around what really happens, and stage EVERYTHING for the cameras.
But this show didn't do that so far, they didn't twist anything around, and they're showing you guys a REAL inside look. I have watched A LOT of "documentaries" on porn and porn stars, and I really think this is one of the most positive and honest ones I've ever seen. ( And I'm not just saying it cause I was on it.)
Yes :) There really are casting calls just like that a few times a year at world modeling. Some times for a big movie or two, and some times just as an easy way to get new girls introduced to a number of producers/directors at once. Lots of birds with one stone so to speak. yay

Finally saw 2 episodes, not sure if they were 1&2 or 2&3 but as someone who was once on the fringe of the industry I really found Katie to be the most informative. If that is what you were looking for in this documentary. I'm not sure Jenna's laugh was real, is it? Seemed to change back and forth as well as did her voice. I also found the fact that most gay actors were straight. That is new to me. (haven't been around the industry for about 9-10 years.)Now that was a segment I found interesting. Of course being female makes my perspective a bit different. I have to agree with Katie on the "casting call" questions. I went to one that was held in a large auditorium and had every producer, director, and photographer there. (1995) Any ways, Keep up the good work Katie, you are adorable and I wish the best for you.
I think the most pop shots I've ever had in a day is three. So, using the porn star quotient (2 x ordinary person = porn star pop shot potential) 6 seems perfectly possible.
Katie Morgan is such a hottie! It's so refreshing seeing her give a frank and honest perspective on the porn industry.

Yeah, it really looked like this guy was just trying real hard to solicit work. I mean wasn't he outside The Valley, in another state no less, working. I get Violet Blue going, because she's a girl, and we all know girls get paid more, but I think when a guy has to leave a state to work, he may be a little hard up. Or maybe the company was very generous financially. Who knows?
I seriously doubt the latter though, he's a mediocre performer at best.
I finally saw the first two shows. They were OK, but the problem with documentaries is that if they're about topics you're already interested in, sometimes you don't learn much. I'm sure it would be a much different viewing experience if you didn't already know about Jenna Haze's career arc or that people have sex on webcams, etc.
I'm also struck by how old the material is. Some of it is from almost two years ago. And they're stretching out an awful lot of footage just from the "Space Nuts" shoot. Not exactly a deep, comprehensive look at the biz. Not really too much better than a good Behind-The-Scenes reel on a DVD, really.
But, by the same token, are they building it up? From the three episodes I've seen thus far, it really just seems an excuse to show cable-edited porn on HBO. Has there been one actual insight broadcast? Maybe Chi Chi LaRue's admission that girls fake it.
Far better (and more impressive) as far as "postivie porn spin specials" was VH1's "When X-Rated Ruled the World" which at least attempted to provide some historical context to the mid-70's porn craze, not to mention interviews with people who can put words together.
The HBO special pretty much has people spouting the party line -- "I Love Having Sex On Camera and Cum All The Time" -- as opposed to "This is a job like all others. Sometimes shitty, sometimes awesome. Sometimes you work with major assholes, other times, people you like."
Seemed staged to me, or really old footage. I could recognize most of the people there, and I would think for a cattle call there'd be unknowns.
HBO seems to have a hard-on for the Steeles since they appeared in Cathouse 2 as a couple who gives each other anight with Sunset Thomas for their anniversary. It was never tipped off that they were pornstars; tho the disclaimer at the end of that "documentary" basicially said "This is all staged. We invited these folks to the Bunny Ranch."

Eyeman, thanks for asking, I did one solo then when I was going to start seriously I moved to Texas. Then went back to Cali in '99 and contacted both Jim South and William Margold but never followed up. Not really flakey, just didn't follow up. I even had my BF's full support if I wanted but just didn't. Now I'm back in Tx.
Earl, your right, it is just a job with good days and bad days, but then again, even at the end of a bad day, my bank account still had a good one :) This is the best job I've ever had, and I've had a lot of jobs.
And for the record I worked on this show for over a year, it is NOT staged, I was there, I can't control what they show, but nothing I shot was set up, and they didn't tell me what to say. :) Also, I have heard that the bunnyranch one is some what set up, but that show has different producer and crew.

I know Pornucopia is not Nightline (which, by the way, produced one of the best porn documentaries of all time: "Death of a Pornstar, the Colleen Applegate Story"), but I find it enlightening and entertaining.

Before I agreed to be part of it (Segment 4 and 5), I sorta "interogated" the Producer/Director to be assured that it wasn't going to be another negative "report"; after seeing the first three segments, I think they kept their word (that they had no preconceived conclusions looking for BS to support their negative/subjective notions, or pre-determined conclusions)and would be objective--whew!
They brought a crew down to my condo in San Diego for a full day, mostly shooting me doing a shoot for my "Knee Pad Nymphos" series, and some other stuff; prior to that, they interviewed me in Los Angeles, and later followed me to the set of "Screw My Wife, Please".
I'm anxious to see the rest of the segments, and hope that my parts in Segments 4 and 5 are OK!!
Anyone who got to fuck Justine Romee' automatically becomes my hero. The fact that you're a former sailor (I'm a former Marine) just seals the deal. Can't wait to catch you and see what you have to say in your segments.
