I am not planning on relocating anywhere and neither is any other Director that I know. This law will change virtually nothing. It will never be enforced. It's political grandstanding at it's ugliest and it's a non-issue. The only thing L.A accomplished is cutting off any revenue they were getting from adult companies who pull film permits, which is about 5% of them. Despite you getting this information from someone who makes their living doing this, I fully expect further detours down the worst-case-scenario vortex.
The porn industry has the ability to turn pretty much everything into a mainstream fetish. They've established gagging and puking and drinking colon milkshakes. They've used speculums, making us masturbate to a fleshy, bulging birth canal. Hell, they've just gone all the way and created a high-class rectal prolapse movie, finally turning a potentially serious medical condition into porn. Just take these condoms, get creative and turn them into something interesting.
Plastic dildos are featured prominently in many of today's porn movies. And if plastic dildoes have a place in porn, then so do condom-covered cocks. So is it pretty much the consensus in Pornadelphia to not make the disastrous anti consumer choice of shooting with condoms? I can imagine you are okay there at Zero Tolerance and the rest of so called Gonzo labels. But will we see a repeat of last time when the "bigger" labels like Vivid and Wicked and probably Digital Playground and/or Adam and Eve return to condom porn? Some of them have pretenses that are they a cut above the rest of the porn made in Chatsworth. Condoms show their civic pride? Steve Hirsch always like to say that Vivid is "condom optional".

It may have seemed that way to you but for everything you think the porn industry invented, there were people who already had that fetish before the first pornographer ever thought of it. If anything people wrote to them and requested it.I'm sure there are people who have a condom fetish. However, you don't get creative with a fiat. People are going to know the rubbers are there because the government has decided to be authoritarian and nothing is going to make that pretty and boner inspiring. Whether the porn industry fights this somehow or decides to just plain defy it, they have to do something because full contact sex is their bread and butter. I hope this is the case, but it's very possible it will be enforced, and there is really no reason to think it will "never" be enforced unless you're just thinking about the best-case scenario. Safety for workers is a serious issue, and if this is the way they look at it, then it's something they will most likely enforce. Just look at the NFL. It's not about what the fans and the players want. The game is different now and it's just that simple. It's not just politicians overreaching. The Aids foundation is serious about this, and they'll keep on pushing until they get their way. To people in porn and people who watch it, this seems ridiculous, but for everybody else, it probably seems extremely sensible and fair. People who don't watch porn are probably surprised this isn't already a law.
The thing about democracy is that anything is possible, including a complete banning of porn. All that needs to be done is for a substantial majority of the people to be persuaded that the new law is necessary and is good for society. And the US Constitution is no barrier to this kind of thing, as long as the Supreme Court judges are persuaded too that the new law is good. Twenty years ago, few people would've thought that something like the Patriot Act, which allows warrantless surveillance of US citizens by US government agents, could become law in USA. But it is the law now, because the majority of US elected politicians approved it, and US court judges okayed it. The same is possible with porn laws too. Everything is possible in a democracy, including slavery, which did exist in democratic USA. All you need to do is persuade a lot of people.

The forces of darkness will observe how the industry adapts to the LA condom law, and refine their attacks to further their goal of regulating the porn industry out of existence. Eventually, they'll come up with some kind of RICO perversion, where they start confiscating people's homes, cars, equipment and assets. The government already abuses RICO to destroy people they wouldn't be able to convict in a court of law. They'll involve the FBI, as people and products move across state lines. Oh, and I hope every single person and performer can prove their legal status in the United States when the various police agencies come sniffing around. And, don't forget, "it's all about the children." By the time the government gets through with them, Roman Polanski will look like the Second Coming by comparison.

The LA city council can now say they are protecting the working conditions of employees and that makes them feel good. They will DO nothing.
^^^^What about "vigilantism" from that Weinstein guy and AHF? Are they going to start renting/buying porn DVDs. check the CFR date of production, check for non-condoms and turn them in to Cal OSHA? All of this might seem a ridiculous overreaction but I can't imagine that flouting the hard won law by the left wing do gooders is going to be trumped by Pornadelphia indifference.
Tyrants always get their way by finding a way to seem sensible and fair to a majority large enough to defend their actions regardless of whether or not they are technically proper or in the spirit of freedom. It's not all that hard to make excuses when you have millions of dollars and millions of stupid people just begging you to lie to them. Then all you need is an open channel and a talking head.

An interesting possibility. I wonder what this ordinance says about "after the fact". I wonder if there are fines attached to the finished product in non-compliance can be proven. I wonder if they can prove that a movie was shot within the LA city limits from looking at the inside of a house or studio. I wonder if these two groups have the resources to follow through.. Anyone know if a producer can be fined after the fact?
The ordinance was passed. Everyone has patted themselves on the back and now it's back to business as usual. California is broke with a capital B. I'm pretty sure most of you reading this have more money than California.

Off-topic, but this isn't particularly true historically. People didn't think the fascists were sensible or fair, that exactly was their appeal. They 'got things done' regardless if it was sensible or fair.
