Does anybody actually like POV movies? Seems like they are just an excuse for directors to get laid. Especially since its primarily directors shooting POV movies (e.g. Chris Streams, Mike John). At least when Woodman was doing his movies he didn't shoot them POV style as an excuse. He called his series "castings".
yeah, so what? lots of people love POV movies, and Mike and Chris' POV movies are some of the best out there, so I don't see whats wrong with it, it works!
Well, duh. There's also a guy called Ed Powers... But there's a difference between Mike John and pretty much everyone else, even Chris Streams. Mike John's work is so well done it legitimately comes across as a format. Everyone is clearly just dipping their wick because they'll sacrifice a shot for getting off, while Mike can do both. And Woodman is just creepy. He makes girls swallow and does internal cum shots when that's clearly not what they're going to be doing normally and clearly could care less about how well it's shot. Even Ed Powers cared about the shot.
I respectfully disagree. I would place him in the same category as Mike John, in that he devotes a lot of time and effort into the aesthetics of the scene. In BTS, it is shown how he fusses over wardrobe, accessories, hair and makeup, as well as the set (not just his living room or a hotel room).
...but that concern does not apply to camerawork when the scene starts. There's just too much shoddy camerawork to put him in the same category has Mike Johns. I completely understand why, but it doesn't excuse it. Oh, and to answer the OP's question, I love Mike John's POV work. That's about it. And he's ignoring that Erik Everhard, Manuel Ferrara and others do POV work and they surely don't need to do so in order to get laid. I hate POV. Most of it is crap, and I can't stand it. But do you really think that directors need an "excuse" to get laid? These guys are surrounded everyday by naked chicks whose jobs are to suck dick and fuck. I'm pretty sure that these guys have no problems getting laid, with or without POV. I suspect the excess of POV is due more to cost than anything else, as it means they don't have to pay extra for male talent. The only type of POV I enjoy is the type where the guy isn't holding the camera the whole time, but instead puts the camera down to film himself fucking the girl as if the camera weren't even there. This is better to watch than the hand-held type of POV. Manuel Ferrara's Raw series is a good example of this. This is also what Pierre Woodman does. Erk Everhard also does it in his "Me Time Moments" of the BTS sections of his movies, which is better than the hand-held POV he shoots in the actual movie. I really hate the type where the guy has to hold the camera the whole time. It's boring and a major turn-off.
Then you don't want POV, as it means "Point Of View." A camera on the tripod or nightstand is not Point of View, which is supposed be the viewer with the girl and not as a spectator. Clearly you enjoy the spectator role.
you either like POV or you don't, it's not like the producers care if you don't like it because they make it for folks like me who do like it, that being said, I have to say Manuel's "Fucked on Sight" series is amazing, the first one was awesome right from the start, and I also think Chris Streams' POV flicks are fantastic and should be in the same catagory as Mike John, in some sense Chris' POVs are a little more interesting because of his attention to detail, and great lighting, costumes, and locations, "Crazy 4 Cougars" in particular was unbelievable, but Mike has a more no nonsense approach witch I think really works in a POV movie, because that really is the point of it, after all. I also think Jules Jordan has done a great job with "Ass Stretchers POV". Edited by - celluloidferox on 7/5/2010 3:28:07 AM

Many of them do need an excuse particularly to do so consistently with new women in the industry.
I'm not a fan of POV style myself. But I also don't think it's an excuse to get laid. I think it's a way to make movies cheaper for them because they don't have to pay male talent that way. LOL

Unless you're actually there fucking the girl yourself, you're just a spectator either way. The only difference with being a spectator of POV is that you don't get to see as much. It's like having a restricted view stadium seat as opposed to a seat that allows you to see the whole field.
I don't know why you would think that. But you probably couldn't be more off-base.

POV works best for me when the guy just shuts the fuck up and lets the girl look up and talk into the camera. However; all too often the guy feels the need to participate in the scene other than being there. Maybe if there actually was a camera man looking over his shoulder the guy could relax and have the girl actually get him off instead of the usual pencil sharpening for 15 minutes. Kelli does make a valid point also about saving a few bucks on talent by casting yourself. "Sir, what do you do for a living?" "I'm a porn director so I pay myself to have girls give me head!"
Well I agree with most of what everyone is saying here but I gotta admit after watching "she is half my age", there was so little effort put into making that movie, I WAS thinking that Brandon Ironwood just made that movie as an excuse to screw some really young and pretty girls.
I'm no fan of HMA, but I'll endure it if that's the price of seeing more of the girls, in a better way. POV is too restricted. If you want to see girl's whole body, to appreciate all her curves and "total package", then POV will not satisfy. The POV concept is built around "let's show my cock getting pleasured by various orifices of the girl, whilst I point the camera at my cock". The girl is not the main focus.
POV > guy's asses However, to get the real feel of the girl's body fucing, you need more than a point of view shot. But I think it is great for BJ/gagger type flicks.
Unapologetically guilty. I did go the effort of reaching to turn on the lights that are a full 4 feet away. I guess I could have the girls do that for me but I like to do some sort of directing.

If someone mounts a camera on the dashboard of a race car your Point of View is from that of the driver. I don't really think anyone needs it explained to them that they aren't really driving, but it's definitely closer to experiencing what the driver does than the camera that captures the entire track.
And that's the other shoe dropping. No matter what anyone tells you, it's money first, sex second. And not only do you not have to pay male talent, you don't have pay for the same sized crew either. A successful POV movie means empty balls and a full wallet. It's a win-win proposition.
Are all porn movies not an excuse for men and women to get laid, I don't see what you are trying to say in the case of POV films the camera man is the performer so what is the difference. ...and, does it REALLY matter?
the POV concept never did appeal to me ....a POV is a pass for me always ...but each to his own....there are other great ones to choose from.... Edited by - bissy on 7/7/2010 9:24:59 PM
Personally, I enjoy POV videos by several directors. I've mentioned Ty Endicott's Bouncy DVDs before. They seem to be fairly low budget affairs, but his videos have a twist in that there is role playing by him and the lady. Themes are him being a potential home buyer and the realtor (Kylee Reese) offers "extras" to close the deal. Another theme is him being the teacher and the young nubile student like Tia Tanaka. The cinematography is clean and well lit, and the sex is hard but not rough. I only wish I could have found a copy of the one he did with Natasha Nice playing a maid which seemed to be perpetually out of stock at Adult DVD Empire and then finally ended up as discontinued. I saw the preview and Natasha looked great and even spoke some French in the preview. I know you can download the movies, but I'd prefer the actual DVD.
I almost pulled the trigger a few times and bought one (esp the aforementioned Maid or the virtual girlfriend one) but at that price I couldn't get too excited about the same girl for a whole DVD. IMHO
Because it's true. However, if you have information indicating that directors can get new women in the industry by just hanging around them then perhaps you can put it forward. And think of it this way. What's easier: A director hanging out at parties and "hoping" these news girls are interested or just booking them for a pov? The latter option is far more efficient. ^^ no Dark, I think you mis-understood Mike as in it was going to be all of MY pov scenes from various movies he was gonna put together on one release,(just for you of course, lol). sorry, I couldnt help it..hehe. lates, Von S.
yeah, looks like we'll call it somethin like 'Bacon Bits' or MCP.O.V,('Male Chauvinst P.O.V.), P.O.V. Pigpen,..or some other porcine referenced title to tout my portly frame in action. especially since I NEVER get laid off camera... let us pray, hehe. lates, Von S. well not to trash another industry guy, but...I'd much rather watch your product than some others. That is I'd like to start a petition to have you take over behind the camera at "Barely Legal POV" You always have good interaction with the girls in the scene, and have much more of a "commanding presence" if you catch my drift. I like P.O.V style movies because the guy is COMPLETELY missing from the shot. This to me is great. All I see is the girl......how perfect is that? In my opinion Vince Voyeur is the king of this style. He gets really nice NATURAL looking girls usually and the camera work is AMAZING. Other people do it but its no where near as good. I think Mike Stefano does really good P.O.V stuff too.

There is this Japanese dude whose aim is to screw a girl from every country in the world. Naturally, he has gotten stuck on the US girls. But his shoots are hilarious in that he makes the girl work the remote for the still camera whilst they are having sex.
You should try solo videos. Not only is the guy completely missing, but the cameraman is not handicapped by trying to do several things at once and restricted camera positions.
