POV is a niche that people either love or hate. As a fan, I think a lot of the dislike comes from the way many studios incorrectly shoot it.
At what point did POV come to mean zoomed in or closeup porn?
It's supposed to be shot as if the camera is from the view of the guy having sex with the girl. Yet many scenes are filmed with a zoomed in shot of the guy's dick. Is his head supposed to be down by his own crotch? The guy should be barely visible if at all in a POV scene. And the girl's face should be visible most of the time. What is with all the closeup penetration shots and cutting the girl's face out of the scene? That's not POV. Maybe there should be another niche genre called closeup penetration, but studios should stop calling that POV.
There are a few directors that shoot it well, but unfortunately there are more that do it badly. As an example, I took a 30 min poorly filmed POV scene, cut out all the bad camera angles and closeup shots leaving in only the sex scenes where you could actually see the girl's face...and it was only 4 mins long. If the guy's dick is in the scene more than the girl's face, there's something wrong.
POV:
- Girl's face and body are visible
- Guy is not visible.
- Shot from the POV of the guy fucking her
Not POV:
- Girl's face is rarely visible
- Closeup penetration
- Shot from the side or the front. Telling the girl to just look at the camera off to the side doesn't make it POV.

its real easy;

guy holding the camera whilst performing = POV
guy NOT holding the camera whilst performing = virtual scene
now, of the remaining 'true' POV shooters; we all have our own style, but including the gals face is always important, especially in the cowgirl/missionary positions. also, the dynamic is totally changed whenever you add that 3rd person to the room for everyone involved, even the viewer. it's now just like any other scene, only the guy/male performer is now basically turned into a prop-act. I know gals can mail it in, regardless of how a scene is shot, but to me the real beauty of POV is whenever some chemistry shows up, because now it's like the viewer is locked in a room w/a gal who's really good at sex, looks amazing, and is accessible directly for you/them. it's hard to hide anything in a POV scene, good or bad. and that's what makes the POV genre of porno it's own animal and prolly the 'purest' niche of XXX when done properly. that's my .02 cents kid...lates, von S.

In scenes where they show the girl's face for literally only a few seconds, then zoom to a penetration shot of the guy's cock for 10 mins...it doesn't matter who's holding the camera, that's not POV. In no way is that the "point of view" of the guy who's with the girl.
The male performer can actually see the girl's face the entire time. That's great, I bet she's hot! So why can't he show her face in the scene? I don't get it. I'm thinking to myself, "There's a girl right there, stop staring at your own cock!"
After 30 min of a poorly shot POV scene, I can't tell you what color hair the chick has, but unfortunately, I can tell you the # of moles on the guy's dick. :(

The old 45 degree angle POV that's not POV used to be my biggest peeve, but exactly what you describe is just as bad..
Perfect example is from here - Ava Taylor

So it is POV and correct camera angles but a new issue. I love POV and seen many many DVDs, but this is the first of this for me.

If it were realistic POV, sometimes it would be looking straight up at the ceiling as they guy is laying on his back and getting blown.

True, but closeup shots for 10 mins at a time? And your own pov isn't zoomed in. It is possible to film and see the girl's face at the same time. There are studios that do it well. The housewives 1 on 1 series for example. Most of those are shot at the right angle where you can see the action and the girl.
Then there are some directors who are fucking the girl doggie style and the camera is sitting down on the floor by the girl's face. I don't know what that is...sure she's making great eye contact with the camera, but in no way is that pov.
