Well your question really doesn't have a simple answer because in reality almost
nothing is legally "banned" before it is done. In most states in the US sex with
animals and children are illegal due to their own laws not because they are
obscene. Now when it comes to adult movies in which all the action is between
consenting adults is where you get into the grey area. You see nothing is legally
"obscene" until the courts say it so in reality when a company makes a movie they
really have no way of knowing if it is illegal in advance. So adult viveo companies
have self censored themselves for years. Allowing some things to be seen in the
states while other things are shown only in Europe or Asia. There is no real reason
behind this just each companies experience and judgement. Plus how much risk
they are willing to take. These matters are even further complicated by the fact
that something being found obscene in Fort Worth TX really doesn't apply any
where else. It may be perfectly legal in say Missouri. It is all about "community
standards".
Now if you are talking about non adult movies and TV shows it gets even harder.
My example is the show "Highlander" I own several seasons of the show on VHS.
Now supposedly there is extra footage in there that was too graphic for American
Television but I can't tell the difference.
