i was shocked a month ago when i logged on to amazon to get a new 2tb hard drive as my current one was full. my last purchase was around new years and now all brands were 3 to 4x higher. i know its some bullshit with AI bubble and these tech centers buying up all the orders from entire companies but 145 dollars in some cases for a 2tb drive is reaching a point i will not pay. what are you guys doing to combat this? just wait it out ? is that feasible? eventually the bubble will burst and prices should ease?

Might be more of a game of waiting for supply to catch up with demand. It depends on how bad you need the space really. I think prices could stay high for years though. I am avoiding buying new computer hardware for now.

Before waiting, I would double-check whether those $145 listings are portable HDDs or SSDs. For media storage, compare price per TB rather than drive price; a larger desktop HDD is often cheaper per TB than several 2TB portable drives. I would also keep two copies of anything important and check SMART health periodically. If the need is not urgent, waiting for a normal sale is more predictable than trying to time the end of the AI demand cycle.
