Why is gay porn so much more expensive than straight porn? I've noticed on all the online stores I use, gay porn is often 2-3 times the cost of straight. I'm assuming gay studios charge this price because the market will bear it, but I'm curious how the discrepancy in pricing between the two genres started. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.

My understanding is that it's more expensive to produce, as gay male performers generally receive a higher rate than female performers.

Not only that, the number of DVD's sold is a lot lower than for straight porn (smaller market), so you need more money per DVD to break even.

Probably a mercenary, profit-motive, element as well - they figure the consumers have a higher disposable income than the average, straight, Joe the plumber.
Plus, I gather they must spend a fortune on all those piano-key staircases, chandaliers, big production numbers, backing dancers and sequined outfits.

^ I've checked out some gay stuff and from what I've seen there are no high production values in gay porn. The sets are unimaginative as is the production, editing and storylines. I think it's a numbers game as well. But there are some nice cocks in gay porn.
