From Reuters
(Reuters) - A prominent Roman Catholic bishop in Mexico blamed eroticism on television and Internet pornography for child abuse by priests, in the latest incendiary comments on sex scandals in the church.
Bishop Felipe Arizmendi said during an annual meeting of Mexican bishops near Mexico City on Thursday-
but who has asked the Priests to watch erotic TV sitcoms and Internet Porn movies in the first place?

Earlier this year, an Iranian cleric blamed the earthquakes on scantily-clad women.
In other words, some (and I stress some) religious folk are fucking idiots.

Bishop Arizmendi summed up this issue correctly with his quote, "it's not easy to stay celibate".
For many years, it was taboo to even speak about this in private, let alone report it to the police.
Today, children are taught to "tell someone" which is a good thing, IMHO.
Most of christian doctrine is taken from the writing of Paul. Paul obviously disliked women from reading his letters to early churches.
I hope that someday, christian doctrine will allow Priests to marry.

More accurate is to simply say religion does a lot, period. Does a lot of good, moves a lot of people's psyches with positive reinforcement. Then a lot of harm follows in religions' wake simply as a result of how momentous religion is. The evil comes when eventually religious piety crumbles and the resulting avalanche reveals the human weaknesses that lay underneath the whitewashing--weaknesses that can no longer be bottled up. This happens on every level, from whole nations going to war for damnedable reasons rooted in religious bickering all the way down to individuals whose failures are as heinous and personal as kid touching. Depending on one's strength of will, some fail more often than others, and some probably are latent peds who've managed to successfully curb the impulse before it ever became a habit.
The # of priests who end up being peds is higher than in your average profession for the same reason that most people experiencing gender confusion find a way to move closer to San Francisco: Psychological Gravity. If one senses they may be destined for gender reassignment surgery, they move into the city where that kind of surgery is most common and most accepted. Similar progression with pedophile priests: they probably sensed they weren't destined to marry based on their sex fantasies not revolving around women, and their great awkwardness in society found a match in their career choice, for the priesthood is like a timeless throwback that exists somewhat removed from the normal flow of society. People make a big deal out of how these priests took advantage of the position of trust society affords them. I think many of them were less devious than that and were just desperately hoping to remain asexual, so they entered a lifestyle that celebrated asexuality where they wouldn't be seen as odd or awkward and confused. (Still assuming they wanted to deny their abnormal sexual feelings), they moved into the neighborhood where sexual feelings are most denied---the Church. Then they just failed to shut down their urges, being unable to confide in anyone and seek help when they needed it on account of mortification at failing their vows in such a vile way.
Now, it's true that some may not have ever had a conscience and these became priests specifically BECAUSE of the access to children. But you know what? I don't think this group of pure evil predators is as large as the first group I described, (the ones who were fighting their impulses and lost the battle.) Because think about it: seminary school is like 7 years long or some such timeframe. That'd be SEVEN FRICKIN YEARS OF PREMEDITATION. Hell, There's got to be other avenues for peds which don't require that much of an investment of time. That's why I'm thinking most pedophile priests weren't intending to end up the way they did. They went into the priesthood because they were deeply confused sexually and felt like they didn't fit into the normal marriage model and were scared of what they were turned on by, so they were looking for an anchor amidst this sea of confusion, so they called upon the gravitas of the Lord God to help them shut down something in themselves they didn't like. The nightmare is that the ped behaviors remained with them, and now their failure to contain it was all the more unspeakable.
As for the not speaking of it, I think several factors combine to cause the higher ups in the Church to forgive these ped priests and merely reassign them to another parish instead of booting them out of the priesthood:
1)on the one hand, the guilty priest has probably told them this exact kind of sob story in his defense--and WASN'T LYING.
2) Next, you have to factor in that there's a culture of forgiveness among the priesthood that may be leading them astray in this case because the cold hard facts are that once you're a ped you're always going to be a ped and no re-commitment to your vows is going to overcome the nearly 100% rate of continued pedophilia among those who try to stop. But that scientific fact may have been slow to enter into the thinking of the Church, which is sworn to forgive, especially its own. Unfortunately, by not booting the peds they condemn yet another generation of kids to be victimized.
3) there's the selfish need among Cardinals to protect the mother Church by sweeping these horrible tidings under the rug instead of properly alerting the authorities. Plus their vow to never tell what they learn of during the sacrament of pennance also comes into play here, I bet. This would further handicap the Church's ability to deal with the problem efficiently.
4) the other selfish need of the church is they've got a priest shortage worldwide so they're tempted to keep the ones they have even if sometimes they.... shouldn't.
5) and, lastly, (ick!) the priest may sometimes go unpunished because the one sitting in judgment of him suffers from the same affliction and sees it as bad karma to start punishing pedophilia in others!

What tosh!
I watch a lot of porn, as do lots other other users in this forum, and I have turned in to a child abusing Beast! Porn is just as available to everyone else as it is to Priests, the only difference is Priests expect to get away with their abuses and exploits because the Vatican refuses time and time again to act against those accused.
Surely watching porn is a sin anyway!
This is absolutely why I don't support or take any religion, life is hard and difficult enough and bad enough to live under controlling Government imposed laws, to impose a set of outdated and frankly daft rules to your life seems silly and unnecessary.
I get the whole belief and faith in something argument but I would expect a 'good' religion to promote individual well being, health and success... Not pleasing some mythical being who may or may not exist or have existed!
