I'm wondering if any of you have ordered any dvds in the past from CD Universe and if you ordered with Priority Mail (4-6 days) how long did you have to wait to receive your goods?
I bought a dvd from them last week and my order was shipped on Wednesday last week using Priority Mail. I know it's probably still too early to panic but I really expected it to have arrived by now, seeing as they ship from the east coast....
I haven't used CD Universe but looking at their site it says "international priority" could be via FedEx International Mail Service (FIMS) or Global Priority Mail via the United States Postal Service (USPS). If sent by the latter from the US, I tend to find it can take more like 5-10 days, on rare occasions a little more.
Yeah, it's definately the latter, Gabe. Global Priority Mail via USPS. Once it's shipped, it's not tracked. Funnily enough, I ordered a book once through amazon.com and the company was based in New York. I ordered the book on Sunday evening and by Tuesday it was here! That was via GPM. I couldn't believe it.
I just hope customs don't start messing me about because of one dvd...
Yeah, I've used AM before. Usually around 10 days, you're right. That's why I thought GPM should be significantly quicker. It will already be 7 days tomorrow, unless you take into consideration the fact that it says 4-6 business days (Monday-Friday) in which case it will only be the 5th business day. GPM is $10.95.
For some reason, shipping from CD Universe is very slow. I'm not knocking them - they're inexpensive and very reliable - but their items do take appreciably longer to arrive than other US retailers. The funny thing is, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether I select standard airmail or priority; either way, it takes two to four weeks for anything to arrive.
Oh, tell me you're joking, sdc!?!? If I had known that, I wouldn't have bothered. Two to four weeks with bloody Priority Mail??? I thought it was too slow. I ordered last Wednesday and I still haven't received anything and they claim 4-6 business days. Another example of false advertising. I may as well have saved $4.00 and selected Air Mail.
I just don't understand how it can take so long by plane. It's only a few hours over the Atlantic. Sure, if they were shipping by surface mail, I could understand 2-4 weeks but by GPM? Give me a break, it's just unacceptable, no matter how cheap they are.
Ryan, I'm afraid I'm not joking. To be honest, I'm not bothered; CD Universe have a good array of titles, and I rarely get around to watching things the minute they turn up anyway. I don't bother with the priority shipping anymore though.
Five Star tend to be very quick but their range is far from exhaustive. Items from Lasers Edge also turn up very quickly, if - and it's a big 'if' - the titles happen to be in stock.
Can you understand how it can take so long, sdc, especially if it's sent by plane? I just can't understand how it can take so long. Well, I suppose you have to sacrifice time for quality and choice. As you said, the other two have a limited range and their titles are rarely in stock.
Isn't that strange but true? I've had stuff from them in about 4-5 days, similar from X-Rent in California.
To be honest, this is nothing like as simple as just chucking a package on a plane, a lot to do with logistics, containers and other very dull stuff, pretty much none of which is down to the retailer, who can only take a estimate of shipping times from the shipping provider.
Yep, global priority from Adult DVD Today is speedy along with Adult DVD Empire. Both highly reconmmended and low cost (although you can order more DVDs from the latter than ADT when using global priority).
Well, it looks like I'll have quite a wait to receive my dvd from CD Universe, if it's 2-4 weeks with Priority. Aload of BS, if you ask me. If it says "Priority" then it should be priority.
I've never used global priority from Adultvideouniverse because of the price. Now i can see the shipping time i would not bother to try it.
I have send quite a few emails to Adultvideouniverse asking them to send dvds in a more 'customs friendly' manner but they won't budge.
I made a $200 order the other day. Given the lack of flexibilty offered by Adultvideouniverse (who i would often like to use with their low prices) i used Adultcdmovies instead.
I would advise anyone else to do the same given Adultvideouniverse's shipping policies.
What are their shipping policies? When you say 'in a more customs friendly manner' what do you mean? My order is only worth $30 because I only bought one DVD.
Some companies don't declare the full value of their packages, allowing customers to receive their goods without paying import duty. The accuracy of customs declarations doesn't really bother me, because I wouldn't trust the Royal Mail with packages of more than one disk in the first place.

...and also the refusal to send just the discs and covers. If i ordered 5 dvds they would probably arrive in a bloody box! Much more likely to be opened and checked, and much more tempting for posties to steal.
