It's a collection of previously released comp DVDs. One of them is the MIllenium DVD, which always gets good reviews and sold well. But you can just buy this disc alone.
I personally wouldn't blow $40 on comp DVDs that were released 2-4 years ago. And it's obvious that this collection is just a marketing strategy. $40 for that? Methinks not.
The only good reason I can think of for buying this is that you haven't followed Private at all and are really interested in it.
But still, think of what you can buy today with $40. You get some quality smut with that.
(Personally, I think Private went downhill during 1997-2002. Their best years are a little bit earlier than this period. But that's a different story, I guess.)
I don't know if it's poor promotion, lack of 'stars' (lost a few to retirement), everyone else catching up or the endless barrage of compilations but they have fallen off my radar a bit over the last couple of years.
You guys are brutal!! OK...we had some problems when we had a president from the banking industry that didn't know the business. Berth Milton is back running the company, and he is a pornographer. He has committed $6 million to production and we have recently released some very hot titles. Gazzman who won the best foreign feature for Scottish Love Knot has a hot movie "Hot Property", Skeeter Kerkove's second movie under our Extreme line is being released next week. Axel Braun shot a super movie "Cadillac Highway" which was released this week. We have a movie coming out in late September, the Millionaire that has the largest shooting budget in porn, $1.9 million and I have seen it and it is also hot! Our Extreme line is now produced by me, and will be hot American style gonzo with the newest and hottest stars taking it up the ass. We may have had a slow period, but watch out we are coming back strongly!!

I have always respected Private for being innovators and for maintining such a high level of quality in their individually labeled products. The sets, the scenery, the costumes, have all been first rate. This is also the best combination of HOT girls, and HOT action.
That being said, I agree that the compilations are hit or miss. Millenium was pretty solid, but Absolute Private sucked. The rest fall in the middle of that range somewhere.
BTW, Ric, you have the greatest job in the world. I'm so envious!!!
I too feel that while private was once a top producer of porn they have fallen away badly in recent years (ehm well quite a lot of years in fact) the magazines haven't been worth picking up for probably more than 20 years and the movies have been hit and miss (some fair ones mind) and as for the collaberations with Penthouse - well they were just Dire. Antonio Adamo's work was good for the bin and no more.
They will really need to go some if they wish to seriously compete with the likes of : Evil Empire, Ana/Diabolic, RLD, Platinum X et al.
I have to say on a more positive note that I agree with ricwilli1 that "Hot Property" is afine movie - loved the bloopers by the way LOL - think the starts enjoyed themselves.
There are still some decent titles out there but I would be delighted if private once again became the force they once were.
To your point though, all of the studios that you mention are gonzo studios mainly. Private has never entered the gonzo market until I hired Skeeter to shoot the Extreme line. Private in the past has either done script driven features or vignettes. I am a raincoater myself, and love the DVD format so I can fast forward through all of the useless talking! No offence but it was Pierre Woodman himself who put Private on the map when it came to good porn. His movies and magazine layouts made me such a huge fan of Private back in the mid 90's.
I mean look at the Private Gold serie back then. They had a few directors who directed for this serie but Pierre Woodman's were always the best because he always used the best looking girls and he always shot the hottest sex. The same goes for the Triple-X serie, the scenes Woodman shot for this serie were always the best. I remember Francois Clousot and Frank Thring also shot scenes for the Triple-X serie but they were always very sub par compared to the Woodman scenes.
In my opinion Kruger Park is the perfect example how a movie should be. Amazingly beautiful girls and very hot sex shot in a beautiful location. A movie only Woodman could make!
Maybe it's not fair to Private to mention Woodman all the time but it's only normal because in a way Woodman spoiled us with such great movies. That's why I really hope they can sign him back!
Just adding my $0.02 to the discussion and showing that you really can't please everyone.
When most speak of good Private productions they tend to talk about Woodman's stuff. For me it's actually the exact opposite. I could never stand Woodman. Sure, some of the girls were gorgeous. Mindblowingly so at times. But he mostly used some French (I think) dicksmen that I found unappealing to say the very least. And his plot driven features were IIRC always dubbed. I ask you, dubbed!?! Evil evil evil. And the male talent in Private movies by Italian directors were generally even worse looking than Woodman's crowd.
The best Private flicks IMHO were Max West's Costa Rica and Frank Thring's Virgin Treasures duos.
Since those days I haven't even glanced at a Private title. The logo itself was enough to instill horrible images of unpleasant looking guys and dubbed moaning. ::shudder::
Perhaps those days are over. Having Ashley Long on the cast list certainly stirred my interest, but finding Jay Ashley on the male side, killed it again. Ah, well.
Maybe someday they'll release a title I want. Something about their site just rubs me the wrong way though, so I'll propably never know if they do. I may be a bit harsh here, but I don't want to register to watch large covers, trailers and screenshots. shop.private.com may be a kickass site if I were to register, but what I can access without registration just doesn't cut it.
I know I'm sounding negative, but I've really got nothing against Private. They seem like a professional company. As it stands I'm just not interested in their products.

So it's like 50 cents a scene. Great value there. But then I, for the most part, like Private movies. I used to always rent the latest title from my video shop in this time period. Just great looking gals usually beautifully shot. Great stylish look to the films (sometimes too much so.)
