Just saw this on one of Private's pages regarding that Ninn thing, I can't say it's something I'd look forward to...

Ninn’s “2funky4u” , Private’s first animated film
Dec 11, 2001
Michael Ninn´s first film for Private will be an animated feature called "2funky4u", to be released in June 2002.

"2funky4u" is set to be the first film of it´s kind in the adult entertainment industry, as it is in 3D and very creative. The fact of incorporating lots of special effects confers this film a big amount of originality.

Ninn is involved in numerous projects for Private at this time. We´ll keep you updated with the latest developments.

Here's a pic..

Scipio,

This looks terrible, but PRIVATE does so much great stuff that I can excuse them for this mistake of signing Ninn to a deal.

Has Private gotten that desparate after losing Pierre Woodman that they would let Ninn ruin their reputation??
I've always thought Ninn's films were overrated but what's with this animated bullshit??!!

This is the first I've heard of it, but it sounds cool. The only animated porn is Japanese, but this looks altogether different. 'Bout time!

I think this is interesting, and worthy of praise for doing something a little different. It cannot be a cheap venture either. Personally, I have little interest in it over and above the curiosity value, but then I do think it is a good thing that some alternative products are being provided. I can't see any effect from this on the other Private product lines.

I am not getting at anyone (I respect everyone's right to their views), but I am disappointed that Private and Ninn seem to be copping more flak over this, which should be a quality product by porn standards at least, than the latest stud who thinks he's a film maker just cause Santa brought him a Handycam for Christmas. Simple solution - if you don't like it, don't buy/rent/watch it.

Don't worry guys, Private are not going to stop making the stuff you like!

I just don't get into porn animation or honestly see the point. It might be well-made and have a big budget, but I can't honestly see any replay value in something like this. I mean, if I want to watch animation, there's stuff like Bug's Life, Toy Story, Shrek, Monsters Inc, and things like the Final Fantasy movie.

I can only assume that Private's testing the waters for this as a novelty niche product.

Gabriel, my "problem" (if you like) with it is that Private have parted ways with Woodman, (a bad, bad move) who shot many of their high-budget features, shot anywhere in the world with excellent quality outdoor scenes and production values, and now they sign Ninn (an overrated director, IMO) who now does this, which as you say, can't be a cheap venture.

While I'm a firm subscriber to the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" philosophy, I'm concerned that this might be a bad portent for things to come. (I can't buy Woodman's Hustler stuff, as it appears that urination seems to be a common thing in them.. and Kovi's Pirate stuff doesn't appeal to me either, and as we say, "I don't like it so I won't be buying it"

cheers,

scipio

Well, I half-agree. I often argue that "feature" style porn is a waste of time for similar reasons. If I want a good story, acting, camerawork etc I'll watch a mainstream feature. I watch porn for beautiful girls and hot sex, period. I am kind of intrigued that this could be interesting, but then the porn industry does not have a good record on potentially interesting and different projects - e.g. the Snoop Dogg video, but that's another issue.
Again, I see where you are coming from. But then that's as much to do with your taste (which is perfectly reasonable), and the fact Private aren't using your favourite director, as to do with the actual product. Let's wait and see what it's actually like before we judge. Though I do have a nagging doubt that you may not be too far off the mark with your concerns!
I haven't seen any of Woodman's Hustler stuff, but I don't think they all have urination in them, if that bothers you.
Ironically, I am not really a big fan of Private, though I do enjoy some of their movies. Also more Superfuckers are coming out on DVD now, so you can always go for those!

Don't worry, I really don't think Private will be doing anything that alienates their core audience - they are surely too clever in business for that!

Scipio urination is not a common thing in Woodman's Hustler movies,I have Hustler XXX 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 plus Hustler Platinum and Hustler platinum Brasilian Snake all Woodman's, ...and only Hustler xxx 6 has 2 scenes with urination in it...so you are missing a lot of good stuff.

Yes, Gabriel, I agree with qrop:
this is porn, if the sex is good, well-filmed, with good looking girls in it, and some great and original ideas behind it (that's what the Private's formula has always been about: 1 girl and 3/4 man, wild and exotic locations, the girl smiling into the camera, etc., you know that better than me), THOSE ARE THE ONLY PRODUCTION VALUES WE REALLY NEED.
Special FX, over-editing, verbose scripts don't automatically make a porn video good.
This is the usual porn's inferiority complex.
It is also true, though, that Ninn signed the deal with PRIVATE USA. So I gather that they may have different markets and different targets now.
And on the other hand, with "Gladiator", it looks like Adamo is moving in different directions. I'm fed up with his Playboy-tv videos. In less than one year he was able to overexpose a hottie like Lynn Stone.
And I saw the Video of Private Gold 51, and Max Bellocchio's not up to the task.
Anyway: animation and trippy music = good porn is an equation I don't believe in.
The Golden Triangle was good porn.

arrgh my message disappeared!

lucky I saved the first part of it in a text editor when I saw it was getting long.. not gonna retype the rest of it right now though

Gabiel:~

Thats the way I feel about features, generally. If I want to see acting, I have a pile of non-porn films to watch. On the other hand, I find that features often have attractive people having attractive sex in them, and I just put on a good CD and skip the talking parts, so it doesn't worry me. To be honest, one of the advantages of features is they're much more likely to be decently budgeted (and therefore technically well put together) than "Joe Blow's Christmas handycam Vol 1".

At the same time I acknowledge the reasons for the industry to make features, both to bring in new consumers (especially as the prevailing assumption is that women like features more then other genres) and to give the pornmakers themselves a sense of purpose and keep them interested. ie: "we're going to Venice to shoot a Mafia film" as opposed to "we're going to Motel 6 to shoot 5 scenes"

Thinking about it, Woodman is probably my favorite dorector in porn, but it's not so much that as seeing who leaves (and their product) and who replaces them (and their product). As I've stated in other threads, I also like Adamo's stuff in general, but Adamo already does more or less what Ninn does IMO, and does it better.
Well, let's just say it's not for me.
I just don't want to buy a dvd and have that sprung on me. "oh GOOD, -thanks- for that." kinda thing.
I've actually evolved into being a big Private fan, mostly because the sex is good, the people are attractive, and they generally have very good production value. The outdoor scenes especially, but also the indoor scenes have sets that have.. how to describe it? Visual Texture?

Companies like Anabolic/Diabolic, while undeniably very popular generally put me off with their boring sets and interior locations. I was looking through some old videos the other day (to decide which get upgraded to DVD and which just get sold off cheap) and FFed my way through several Anabolic/Diabolic vids. I just found them bland looking. Sets and lighting.

Well, there's always New Coke

Well, I think Woodman's departure had as much to do with a very large cheque from Larry Flynt as anything Private did.

But look at the bigger picture - Private are continuing to release virtually the same product range as before, with some slightly altered titles and the addition of Ninn and Bellochio. So how much has really changed? You can still buy Woodman's movies, just from another production company, and you can still buy all the other Private movies.

Hey, I agree about the production values etc BUT original ideas, from Private? I don't think there is much original about Private's formula. There was way back when Berth Milton senior mixed hardcore images with politics in the sixties, but their material is so formulaic today.

Ironically, here is a (semi) original idea, or at least something a little different, and you are all complaining about it!

I understand and indeed totally agree on what you are saying - "cut the BS, show the pretty girls and the hot sex and do it well. Forget stupid stories and bad acting." BUT then those are all flaws that Woodman is indeed guilty of himself - overblown epics with wobbly sets!
This is a good point, Private are a company who take their image very seriously and are constantly searching for ways to "legitimise" what they are doing.
No, I don't want to deprive you of your favoured porn, or force you to watch anything pretentious- I agree, keep it simple! But then as you comment about Adamo, Private's products were already far from perfect. At least they still have the MATADOR!!!!

As I have already said, I am not that interested in Ninn or this project. All I am saying is that there should be room for something new and different (not necessarily this particular animated movie) otherwise porn will stagnate, and we will be arguing about "why don't they do anything different in porn today!"

I'm not argueing with you, Gabriel.
I can't question your likes and dislikes and I always keep in high consideration your comments and reviews.
Private's history, let me say, is a glorious one.
Without them, or without Woodman, maybe today there wouldn't be any "Euro porn", no Rita, no Kovi, no Rocco Ravishes Prague.
And I'm PROUD of my collection of "formulaic" videos and magazines.
The only point on which I'd like to insist is that it's never a good thing when porn starts to ape mainstream just to have more credibility or when porn directors start telling Homeric epics just to show that they don't belong to some ghetto populated only by freaks and whores.
We still have Castings, Black Label, Matador, Reality (GREAT Mercedes cover on #3!). And, if you remember Millerman and stuff, well, we've seen worse.

I agree wholeheartedly with Gabriel, it's not like something is being taken away to make room for this. It won't, of course, compete with the 'traditional' pornos, so to judge it by those standards wouldn't be quite right. Though not made with the average home wanker in mind, I believe there are great numbers of people who would welcome something fresh and new. I have long wondered why there is such a dearth of any animated or cartoon porn in the western world, and for me, something like this might have a much higher replay value than most in my collection.
My hat's off to Private and Michael Ninn, and I look forward to seeing this.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it! I also appreciate your comments too. I am not arguing either - I understand why you are perhaps annoyed by the way Private appear to be going, but they have more new talent in terms of directors coming on board, so all may not be lost! All I am really asking is that folks keep an open mind about things.
Well, I think Private have undeniably had a massive role in Euro porn, and have taken it, as a business, to new levels of professionalism, but I am not sure I'd go so far as to say we would have missed out on the other stuff you mention without them.
Yeah, that's perfectly fair. As I already said in an earlier post, I respect everyone's right to their own tastes and opinions. I certainly didn't mean to imply any criticism of your tastes, which you don't need me to tell you are eminently sensible!

I perhaps misplaced the use of the term "formulaic". Private clearly have/had a formula that works. I wasn't really criticising this - if it ain't broke, don't fix it - but rather I was suggesting in general terms that they don't really make original movies. As a side issue, it's ironic that the stuff they have done that tries to be original (some of the Pirate Deluxe series) is the stuff that many fans have complained about, even if it has brought in a new audience.

These are all very good points. It does annoy me that a company like Private who have been so successful on their own terms feel the need to "legitimise" what they are doing.

I just read some of the other news reports on Private's pages.. lots of hype about Ninn's "Bullet-Time/Dead-Time" sci-fi feature. Titled "Perfect".

I dunno, I'm a bit wary of the whole "Private goes sci-fi" thing after the Uranus Experiment (cover a woman in blue bodypaint, and she's an alien. Though an ugly one). On the other hand, it could be interesting. Though I can already see the hype about the first cum-shot in bullet-time..

Adamo's Gladiator trilogy seems reasonable, despite the dross about "The film, which will be released as a trilogy, is set to make history not so much as simply an adult movie, but more as a mainstream movie with a strong hardcore emphasis."

Though I don't think I'm in much danger of having to choose between "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" or "Private's Gladiator" when I go to the cinema in a few months it looks to be a good production, with high production values, attractive people and nice costumes.

As for 2funky4u, I personally don't forsee great numbers of people outside the porn industry (who will no doubt wet themselves) getting especially excited about it. I'll stick to Pixar over Private to provide my CGI animated entertainment.

cheers,

scipio
