I'm not sure I'd trust the USB port at this point, but there are plenty of data recovery tools out there to choose from.

After I come home for the weekend, I find out both drives might be erased. If I click on one of the drives it says, this drive is not formatted, do you wish to do so now? Now since they were working fine before I left, and no one has done anything to them, can anyone tell me how this happened? They both connect thru USB. Freak accident? And is there anyway to save what was on the externals? We are talking 100 Gig worth of stuff that I HATE too lose. Thanks [Link] |

Try removing them from their cases and attaching them directly to the computer via it's normal parallel or serial ATA cabling (PATA or SATA).
