| schandor Member Bloomington, MN 23 Posts 6/01 | I have a Toshiba DVD player and have problems playing every single Adam and Eve DVD I've rented. Toshiba says it's because of the "computer friendly" software they put on the disk. Any thoughts on how to get around this? If not, does anyone know how can I contact Adam & Eve Productions to see if they have any ideas? Thank you for your thoughts. Edited by - schandor on Jun 28 2001 [Link] |

Just check a quick list I compiled: So, the logical conclusion is to assume that there's something very wrong with Toshiba's players. Cause NO tabletop player is supposed to have problems with the PC Friendly software, only DVD-Roms.Edited by - Planet Sex on Jun 27 2001 |

There is supposedly a solution, but it entails packing up your player and shipping it to Georgia for god knows how long, and I just haven't done it. I'll just watch those in my Creative Labs DVD ROM player, which handles them all and a slammin picture, to boot. In Hawaii, call Toshiba at 808-521-5377 |

I'm sorry you have been unable to view the fine products on A&E, but I have been seeing numerous problems similar to yours and yes it is all revolving around the player. I do the DVD authoring and graphics for many of the A&E titles and I am always available should you need some technical support about the functionality of the DVD's. I can be reached at kat@imagewarrior.com and am always open to suggestions, comments, questions or whatever you might need on the DVD's for Adam and Eve. I hope you are able to view your movies, and I am sorry about your machine problems. Kat ImageKat |
| Planet Sex Deactivated User 1951 Posts 6/01 | We recently purchased some DVDs from various companies, including A&E - not for distribution, just to see how they're done, what kind of extras they have, etc. Apart from that, we also have a DVD magazine and we're constantly testing new players. And we use, for the testing, some titles listed as "problematics" at Raincoat's site. All of the A&E titles played 100% fine in all the players we tested, including some cheap-ass, bottom-of-the-line brands. EXCEPT the Toshibas. One of the Toshibas even SPAT OUT a Zane titles (Backstage Sluts #2), that played fine in all the other players - including the cheap-ass CCE and the grumpy Gradiente. That's very weird. Is Toshiba allergic to porn, or something like that? |
| schandor Member Bloomington, MN 23 Posts 6/01 | I just wanted to say thank you for all the responses. I had no idea that Toshiba's had problems with so many titles. I've had mine for close to two years now, have watched hundreds of movies on it, and never had a problem minus the obvious (the reason I posted). Guess I'm just lucky. Anyway, I'll probably be looking to buy a new player around November so I'll just hold off on the A and E titles until then. But if anyone knows of any Toshiba tricks I'd certainly like to hear them in case I run into something like this again. Thanks again |
| Planet Sex Deactivated User 1951 Posts 6/01 | And if you want to buy a new player, I, personally, would suggest you a Pioneer or Sony. Sony's so sensitive, you don't even see the layer change in the dual-layer discs; Pioneer isn't THAT precise, but of all the players I know it's the one who's más macho . |
| Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | While I agree that the problem is the Toshiba DVD player and not the discs, it is obvious that these players tend to have problems with discs from specific manufacturers, and play discs from other manufacturers with no problems at all. Therefore, there has to be something that these manufacturers are doing that other manufacturers are not doing that causes these players to have problems. Has it been determined what the variable is that causes the problems with the Toshibas? If so, is there a different way to accomplish whatever it is that this variable does? When it comes down it, although there are problems with these Toshiba players, there are a lot of them out there. Most people are not going to buy a new player because they can't play Adam & Eve titles on this player. They will just stop buying Adam & Eve titles. It's very easy to say "It's Toshiba's problem" and not do anything to fix the situation. But the fact remains that the compatibility problem is going to cost Adam & Eve (as well as other manufacturers) money. When 90+% of discs will play correctly on someones machine, they are probably going to place the blame on the manufacturer of what they see as defective discs. Unless it is a huge deal, It only makes sense for the software manufacturers to do something to get around this problem. |
| ImageKat Member 26 Posts 12/00 | Thanks for your response. I agree, player problems can reduce sales of certain lines of product, the problem is what has the player manufacturer done differently that takes it out of the "standard" for dvd playability, and it is not just with A&E. This starts going into the area of desk tops, not all desk tops are compatible as well. And if we try to accommodate "un-standard" into the authoring, then we open the door to more problems with playability. Reading through these forums, A&E just happens to be the most recent movie pin pointed as not playing on these machines, numerous other titles are listed as well... We are trying to figure out what makes the in-compatible, and when we find the answers we will adjust if possible or put a tag warning on the boxes or ????? Kat |

| schandor Member Bloomington, MN 23 Posts 6/01 | I would put the disk in, and the word "Play" would come up on the DVD display (perfectly normal thus far). Unfotunately that's all that would happen. The play indicator would never go away and nothing would show up on the TV. I could hear the disk spinning up inside the machine. This happened on "A Witch's Tail" and two others from Adam and Eve. I can't remember which two because they happened a long while ago. I just figured it was a fluke. As I mentioned before, this is the first problem I've encountered with the player be it porn or otherwise. One other thing, the display would indicate the section (chapter) it was trying to access. That's all I can think of for now, I will update if anything else comes to mind. |

| tricia_devereaux Evil Angel DVD Patience is a virtue, but who wants to be virtuous? 4283 Posts 4/00 | Evil Angel DVD has had lots of problems being played on various Toshiba's, but some Toshiba owners have found it to be fine, so go figure. I agree with Bill that we should do our best to try to figure out what's different, but that's very difficult because since we're in competition with other manufacturers, and different authorers are in competition with each other, so I'm not sure where we could turn to for advice from someone who isn't having this problem and ask them what they do different. Anyway, we've been looking to buy a Toshiba player for the exact reason Doug mentioned - if our discs work on that, they should be fine across the board. But I've received most complaints about the 99 models (1399, 2199, etc.) But if the 2006 is having problems, maybe that will do, since I can't find a 99 model in the stores. Schandor - what model is yours? |

| ImageKat Member 26 Posts 12/00 | Received a copy of Appassionata and while I am still going through it, one of the things I noticed right away is the 2 disc set, and the disc with the feature has no rom function on it (meaning web link)....Now this has caused some issues in the past with desk top players, but maybe this is an issue with set tops, specifically Toshiba. Another overall problem, is we are pushing technologies We are going to see these problems from the past, in I am continuing my research and will let you know what Kat |
