I am getting a ps3 console soon and want to know how I can get it online? I don't have wireless internet, but a cable from my modem to my computer.

Why do I need a router? can't I just put the cable from my computer in my PS3?

You could remove the cable that's currently in your computer and put it in the PS3. But, if you want to have an Internet connection for more than one device (computer, ps3, etc...), you need a router. The router is kind of like a traffic cop, directing data to and from the appropriate components. The modem plugs into the router and the router is connected to the individual components (either via wire or wireless). If you get a wireless router, you won't need to run a cable between your router and your ps3. Most wireless routers will also support a wired connection.
