Based on what I've read and a few (very few) conversations with several women I know well enough to have such conversations, many women tend to number their sexual liaisons in single digits with a majority topping out at well under a couple dozen. And then there are those who claim to have been virgins at marriage and to have been totally monogamous thereafter.

There are also some men who were virgins at marriage; and some, though fewer still, who have remained monogamous. It does happen; however, I suspect it is very far from the rule these days. (I'm not knocking it, understand. In fact, I quite respect it. I'm just making generalized personal observations unsupported by anything more than my own reading - totally without knowing the veracity of the source material - and my own experiences and those of people I know and trust to tell me their perception of the truth.) However, many men rack up sexual partners to rival their collections of beer bottles stacked along the window sills of their bachelor pads. And after marriage, a significant number show no sign of slowing down.

It is said that approximately 50% of all men have had at least one sexual experience that can be classified as homosexual in nature. You can probably safely assume that many gay men discover their affinity in just such an encounter. In the straight world, society has mechanisms, however ineffective, of encouraging monogamy; in the gay world, no such restraints exist. Moreover, because homosexuality is so maligned by society, homosexual expression is often driven underground: casual encounters often the result of furtive meetings in public and clandestine places like parks, highway rest stops, and public toilets. Rest rooms in the stacks at campus libraries are notorious meeting places as are bus and train depots. And then there are the peep show booths at dirty book stores.... You get the picture. What's more, such situations encourage anonymous sexual encounters with multiple partners, further skewing restraint.

I've read that the estimate for sexual partners among gay men by the time they are 25 is 100 men and that in a lifetime, 1,000 is not unrealistic. Personally, I suspect that there are very many gay men for whom those numbers would be very, very conservative. I would not be at all surprised to learn that the lifetime achievement count tops 5,000 for a significant portion of the gay population.

That's one hell of a lot of practice!

I'm not saying all gay men are that promiscuous; but a very many are. I've never thought of myself as being promiscuous; and I hate anonymous sex; however, I qualify. I consider myself to be serially monogamous in that when I am in a relationship, I do not play around - that's not the norm in the gay world. Taking a hard look at my own life, I've been in 6 long-term relationships - at least, I considered them to be long term, the longest having lasted just over six years and the shortest, one and a half. I've been in more than three dozen relationships that lasted a few dates or more, meaning we got past the second data but it petered out after a few weeks or months. And I suspect that there may have been over a hundred one-night stands (I can't really be sure - I haven't counted). So, my tally in all categories and at age 47 puts me somewhere in the range of under 200 partners. I seriously doubt that many straight men match those figures; and yet, based on my experience in the gay world, I'm practically a born-again virgin.

I know of a priest who probably averages 2 to 3 encounters a day, Sundays included. He'll easily surpass 5,000 in his lifetime (if he hasn't already). I know of married men who would never cheat on their wives with another woman but who make a dozen trips to parks or highway rest stops a month for blowjobs. And then there is the men's room on the second floor at Macy's in the Pentagon City Mall - I suspect that 50 to 100 uniforms drop trou for a quickie each and every day between the hours of 12 and 2. As much as I like a man in (and out of) uniform, that isn't my idea of a military mess.

Yes, men are more promiscuous than women - much more.

I'm not even sure Canadian Girl should watch gay porn to learn how to better her techniques. I find how blowjobs are done in gay porn is very much based on which studio produced it. If she's looking to be more "wild" about it, she's not going to see much of that in a video produced by a company where the sex scenes are filmed in a stand-and-pose way, where it's more important how you look than what you're doing. There are lots of studios that churn out video after video that way.
