Don't think if this is the right forum or not.

How do companies that sell only imported DVD titles get away with the 2257 thing? If they have to have actresses age and idenity on file, how can they get away with not having this information?

Perhaps they are not following the rules and can just get away with it and take a risk? Hundreds of retail DVDs in the USA are re-releases of old Japanese movies it seems. Certainly there is no way all the Japanese suppliers would give them this information. Especially when most of the companies that release Japanese porn in the USA are quite small.

Does Uncle Sam even give the companies who sell imported Adult products guidelines to follow? I doubt it.

I mean even if you wanted to sell imported DVDs, how could you? I wonder how the people that sold all the GGG titles in the USA managed to follow the 2257 laws. I haven't heard much of that company in awhile. I wonder if all the GGG titles were popular in the USA like I would have hoped.

While I'm certainly no lawyer, I believe there is a difference between a distributor and producer. If you're merely selling an already packaged product that was produced by another company than you're not responsible for the 2257 requirements. If you were, could you imagine if every adult video store and magazine shop had to hold the id's/releases of every star in every release on their shelves?

However, there's some modifications in play now which bring up the idea of a "secondary producer", but I won't get into that since it's most likely not relevant to the question you asked.

I think they are taking a risk if they don't have the proper info, when the laws changed Scott Kinney shut down XXX Imports because he couldn't get the proper 2257 info and I highly doubt he would have shut down unless he had to

I may have misunderstood the question. I thought he was asking about companies that just "distribute" the releases and not re-release them. That's a big difference.

You answered your own question. No docs, no compliance, no sale. Anything else is just gambling.
