I don't know if I just never noticed it before, but I recently caught the sound of a very light rasping noise coming from my Canon Ultrasonic 28-135 IS lens while focusing... is this normal? It can be heard while in AF or Manual- again it's a very light sound, almost like static. FWIW, the camera is a Canon EOS 30D and there doesn't seem to be any problems with the it's functions, otherwise.

I don't know if this helps but my Canon, though it is different model makes a bit of sound while focusing and it seems top be working just fine.

I know nothing about Canon cameras but it's probably normal. Focusing is a mechanical function. There's a little servo in there that does the focusing.
