As for other stuff, there's more than a few things that 99% of the regular porn studios don't make, or at least won't distribute into regular porn stores.
Some of these things include fisting, enemas, golden showers, scat, etc
Of course, these things DO exist, but the obsenity law is SO vague, and the government gladly keeps it vague in the hopes that someday they will be able to bust a porn company for distributing something too hard into a very conservative town.

Something that even I have difficulty finding in the US are tapes that have sex and bondage happening at the same time to someone.
They are considerably easier to find in Europe.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the 1973 ruling has since been superceded.

As for fisting, why would that be viewed as "obscene," but not penile/vaginal insertion shots? What makes one image "objectionable," but not the other? For example, in Liquid Gold 2 , one of the performers inserts four fingers into her vagina repeatedly, with all the associated "squishy" sounds coming through clearly. Why, then, would a fifth finger being inserted suddenly be considered "objectionable"?

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the legal statutes. It all seems so arbitrary.

Which lends credence to the view that the various legislatures have rendered their statutes intentionally vague, with a view to shutting down a porn studio that pushes the limits by distributing its wares in certain communities.

Confusing. A person living in Dayton, Ohio, probably can't legally find a copy of Peeing #14 at a brick-and-mortar establishment in his or her town--but the title is easily obtainable online.

Another way of putting it: If one has to "know the right people" in order to locate certain kinds of material, does that de facto mean said material is possibly illegal?

Just what laws are on the books? And are these laws established by the local legislative bodies or by the U.S. congress? (If so, this sounds like a sort of establishment-driven anarchy.)

Also, if a few vendors, online or otherwise, do not ship certain product to supposed "problem areas" in this country, do they somehow cookie their Websites so as not to display certain titles?

Since I am in Southern California, then, I would assume I get to see a different set of pages at DVD Empire from someone logging on from, say, Arkansas. That would make for some really complicated software, no?

This is a terribly fascinating subject.
