scarhappy Member Canada 11 Posts 4/02	Posted - Apr 12 2002 : 5:00PM Hi I recently watched Breakin'em In #1. Excellent casting!!! I have a home theater sound system and I notice even with it on stereo mode most of the audio was coming from the left side. I was using a digital connection from my DVD player to my home theatre setup so it was not an L & R analog input issue. The audio in Pro-Logic should be anchored to the Center channel or in Stereo mode having audio come from the Left & Right channel. Was this a flaw on the DVD or certain DVD or was it over-looked because you do not worry about the sound separation when producing this DVD. I have only seen this flaw before on Extreme Teen #18 DVD. I love the Behind the Scene footage!! Would love to see more if possible. I have order another DVD titles and will see if it has the same problem Straight to the A Please advise Chris [Link]

I do not usually use my home theater system (cardboard walls and all that) to play adult movies but rather use headphones and it is really noticeable and painful on headphones. The problem lies in the mixing -- the dvd producer did not mix the sound properly but placed most of the sound in one channel, and occasionally, the other channel. This is reminisce of the early stereo (and early quadraphonic) with the artificial sound mixing. Red Light can improve on its sound mixing. Private has some of the best mixing in the industry, together with some of the best music. For example, in the video of Bachannal, I think that there is an original score and it was very beautiful. By the way, Straight to the A 1 also has this sound mixing problem. Ron Edited by - ronk on Apr 12 2002 [Link]

There are a few other companies out there who think that stereo should be done the way it was done for music when stereo was first introduced (music in one channel, vocals in the other) When listening to the audio from TV speakers, this isn't so horrible. However, for those of us who listen to audio through any kind of a receiver (even just a two channel stereo), the resulting audio is ridiculous. Mono sound is GREATLY preferable to poorly mixed stereo sound. With Red Light, what is really frustrating about this is that other parts of the disc are mixed properly (or in mono), it's just the feature that sounds odd. [Link]

To be fair to the early musicians (and if I remember what I read correctly), the main reasons were: no modern mixing console, the music was recorded live and not tape mixed, and most importantly, many studios only had 2 microphones (which were very expensive then) and so had to use relatively primitive recording techniques. Modern mixing with all the technology is often over mixed (with too many microphones) and the over mixing mess is quite discernable on super high-end stuff. I would like some super high-end equipment but that will quickly put me into the poor house. Ron [Link]
