I was having a discussion with a friend about male and female reproductive systems. I know that females have a limited amount of eggs that they can produce. What about men and the production of sperm? I had always thought that it was in 'abundant' supply. However my friend states otherwise. Can anyone shed some light on the info? If you could provide references or a link it would be appreciated.

Men never stop producing sperm unless there is some accident or trauma that affects sperm production. Sperm count lowers slightly with age but it never goes away.

The truth of the matter is that sperm live about 10 weeks from the point they are "created" to the point they die. They are released only the during the last 3 or 4 days of that period when they are physiologically mature. It matters not how they are used whether for their intended purpose of procreation, or lost through masturbation, or "saved" because of some ill-conceived emotional or religious notion that it might matter.

Motility decreases with decreased testosterone levels and human growth hormone levels as age increases. But, with good genetics, just about any age can be fertile enough to father a child.
