Hey all. I just bought (what I thought) was a DVD, and when I got it in the mail, it turns out it's a "DVD compatible video CD" in a small jewel case. It says "compatible with Sony, Panasonic, RCA, Yamaha, JVC, Samsung."

I've got an APEX DVD player. Is this thing going to play in there? Will it work in my computer's CD ROM drive? I haven't opened it yet, so I might send it back. Apparently, the title (Blonde Justice 3) isn't released on DVD yet.

Most early generation DVD players will not play VCD and most newer generation DVD players will play VCD. Most computers will play VCD if you have the software to play them. You can try to access the MPEG file and use Real Player to play it. The VCD sounds like a pirated disk. Are you in the US as VCD's are rare in the US.

Thank you for the quick reply! Yes, I'm in the US, and this looks like a genuine disc, it's got the full-color artwork and "Vivid" right on the label. I just remembered, my player DOES play karaoke VCDs, as I remember looking through the manual. I believe karaoke VCDs may be a whole different breed of animal, though.

Thanks again, any other advice is appreciated. It was less than $10.00 so I might just rip it open and try it!

You can download a player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ that will play most video files, including VCD. If you have a Creative Soundblaster card in your computer, you might already have a player that will open automatically when you load the CD. Any late model DVD player will play VCDs with no problem as well as mp3 disks.

How old is your Apex player? If it is 1 year old or less, it should be able to play VCD. Since you can play Karaoke VCD, my guess is that regular DVD should be okay.
