I am a fan of yours and I remember reading in the Flesh Hunter 5 debate that you produced 5,000 or 6,000 copies initially of a movie. I was wondering how long it takes to sell 6,000 movie copies, or do all of those copies sell? If so that's pretty impressive!

Sorry to hijack your question shark21, but in general most porn companies usually shy away from giving out too much info on sales figures.

We can tell you though that Jules is one of our highest DVD sellers for Evil Angel, and that we are constantly reordering new batches of discs of his DVD titles every time we run out.

Actually, I'm curious about why this would be, especially at a company that might well have figures to brag about. Is there a reason other than shyness? Just wondering.

I guess it's one of those taboo subjects
in the industry not readily shared with
each other or the public kinda like how
much a female performer got paid for a DAP.

Being a stats freak, I would love to see the
breakdown of all the DVD & VHS sales numbers
(units sold) from each of the Porn company!

I think it would be interesting also to know what the real sales numbers are and I'm not quite sure what the reasoning is for keeping that information so close to the vest, especially since the broad trends are pretty obvious, i.e., Jules' stuff always sells, Joey's stuff always sells, etc. Since everyone knows these things, what's the harm in making the exact numbers public, especially for an established company like Evil Angel? Now, I can understand why a more marginal company, like Celestial for instance, might not want their numbers made public, but not an Evil Angel, Anabolic, RLD, etc. But then again, maybe that just shows how much I have to learn about the porn biz.

For a company that's not doing well, they probably wouldn't want to say so, true.
And for a company that is, hopefully they realize it's not nice to brag... :)

Seriously, though, there is SO much competition in the adult business between rival companies, that many companies inflate their sales figures anyway if they do say something semi-public.

I just don't like getting involved in all the games.

To answer part 2 of the question, in the first 30 days of sales, we are still selling a little more VHS than DVD of a particular simultaneous release. However, immediately afterwards, reorders of DVDs are higher than VHS.
Perhaps that's because distributors buy more initially, and they are still buying more VHS than DVD.
And internet sites buy more in reorders to fill their incoming orders, and they buy almost always DVD.

You guys can get numbers from public companies like private. Look at their quarterly reports.

I'm not aware of any industry where private companies make their sales figures public, unless those numbers are promotional in nature (which says nothing about actual numbers.)

VHS is still the rental Queen. DVD is the sales Queen.
