I sorta already asked this question, but Roger never answered, so I'll try again:
why Private skipped "Golden Triangle" when they re-edited their Film collection into DVD? While the sex is probably the best produced by Private with former enfant prodige Woodman, the video quality is actually grainy and not really good. But the movie has also a historical value, so why not a "special edition" like Tower 2 & 3?
I'm not sure if Roger can answer this, but is there any controversy about the video's ownership? Why was it retitled and why Woodman didn't sign it with his real name?
And has this anything to do with the fact that there's no disc yet (and you're putting out anthologies of "Private Stories"... argh)?

[MOD: "Star Crossed"? I was staring at nude chicks while penning this]

Sbando Boy, I have a couple of questions about these films:

What actually happened with the Tower 2/3 DVD? I assumed it was "highlights" from both onto one disc, with some stuff edited out?

You mention that the Golden Triangle had it's title changed? What happened there?

thanks,

scipio

No, Private is somewhat concerned about the visual quality
of many things that came out before 95/96 (so, as Roger told us, there'll only be compilations of Private Mag., Private Stories and Triple X), and probably they didn't want to spread Tower in 3 different dvds. So they released Tower 2 and 3 in one disc, like the compilations.
No cuts, but the visual limitations are obvious.
So, if they think that GT doesn't deserve a regular edition with all the pomps, behind the scenes, stills etc., why not a single disc like Tower?
On the other hand, Golden Triangle, had a troubled history. It was Woodman's first effort as a full fledged director after Ricaud's demise and the movie was meant to be called "The Bali Connection".
It ended up having a different title and Woodman signed it with a different name, Jean-Pierre Bouchet. So i wonder: has this something to do with the legal troubles the crew (and Pierre) had in Thailand, or there was some kind of dispute about the film's rights or the film final cut, and is this dispute that's preventing Private from releasing the DVD?
I'd like to know the story behind Bali connection, but, honestly, since Private still sells the VHS version of this
fine movie, I just think they skipped the DVD because the picture quality was so awful. But like Private Magazine 1, it'd deserve a disc only for its historical value.

From Sbando Boy:
Whoa. Yes, there were *definitely* scenes cut in the Tower 2&3 DVD. I was disappointed they cut the scene w/ Joo Min Lee since she doesn't seem to be in any other Private DVDs (only on a few VHS ones)-:
There were one or two other scenes in Tower 2&3 I would have traded for it (the women weren't the greatest looking to say the least).
There was at least another scene that was missing if you believe the stills on the back cover of the DVD. I mentioned this in my review of it.

Point taken. Thank you for the info, CM. I'll check the vhs and confront it with your review and see if I can identify the cuts. I stayed away from Tower 2/3 because everybody told me of the bad video quality, but I was still convinced it was an integral version. Too Bad. Tower is a Private highlight, it'd deserve a better edition even though the cast wasn't a typical Woodman's all cuties cast.
With this knowledge, no, then I DON'T want a "Golden Triangle" special edition.
So, my conclusion is that they skipped GL altogether cos they even didn't find it worth of an edited edition.

Definitely don't agree with them. I think the video quality was very good except for the last scene where they were in the dark video room where it was just too dark to see that well, but it wasn't grainy. It's craploads better than any semi-old Vivid release I've seen.

The only really bad video quality (lots of grain, etc.) I've seen from Private is on some of their collection DVDs like Zodiac, Absolute, etc.

Tower 1 shows some artifacts in the darker scenes too.
Anyway, all we've left in the end is a butchered Tower 2/3 and no Golden Triangle.
