In the US we call an open mouthed with tongue kiss a French Kiss. In a recent issue of FHM(?) they said that the French call it an English Kiss. Is that true?

Never heard that one, strange if it's true as us Brits call it a French kiss also!

Yeah! I'm calling it a Freedom Kiss too...but, I would like to keep this a friendly thread that gets an answer from the French. I abstained from the comment in order to not make this one of all too many anti-French threads.

Where does Freedom kiss name come from? I've never heard it called that before.

Oh people are being silly.

They seem to think renaming things like French Fries, and French Toast will "get back" at the French people for not supporting the U.S in the war.

I would like to know the answer to the original question as well...the thought had crossed my mind before as well.

Who are those journalists at FHM? There's no equivalent for the term French Kiss in French language, since it's pretty much the only way we kiss, so it's not considered a variation of a practice,& therefore doesn't engender a particular expression. You can say "rouler une pelle" or "rouler un palot", but there's no such thing as "un baiser anglais".
FHM writers may have mistaken with our term for rubbers, which is "capote anglaise" ("british rubber") whereas i think british people say "french condom".
And could u please avoid those petty political jokes ? Jacques Chirac does not represent the state of mind of all French people, as well W.Bush does not encapsulates the American state of mind.

vodka, thank you. In case you are not familiar, FHM is pretty much a T&A magazine(though clothed T&A). It is a fun read, but definitely not something that you would use as a source for facts. Hence the question I asked.

In Austria they might soon start calling it "neutrality kissing" (insider joke from 2 weeks ago)...
