So i just found out that my new girlfriend doesn't have a vibrator and when i brought it up it seemed like she really wanted one. But here's my dilemma, i want to get her something she'll love, but she's never used a vibrator before. So should i just get a regular cock shaped one or should i go all out and get a rabbit or something like that? I mean i don't want to freak her out with some crazy sex toy that she won't know how to use, but then again I've read the reviews on the rabbit types and she would obviously love one of those. Can you bring her along to a shop to pick one out?

I would suggest starting out with a cock-shaped one, so she can maneuver it around and figure out where she likes it. Not all women use vibrators in the same manner, and I've always thought a cock-shaped vibrator is pretty simple for initial exploration.

I bought a "butterfly" shaped vibrator for my wife a while ago. She loves it, it hits most of the areas you would want a vibrator to hit and she really warmed up to it right away because the insertion portion was relatively small so its not real intimidating. If shes never used one before, I would recommend going that route, something that will stimulate the clitoris while inserted, but also with a relatively unintimidating insertion portion. After shes used to that, its no holds barred.

I think it's a crapshoot. Different strokes for different folks. My favorite was a little blue rocket shape that I used externally rather than inserted. Then I tried a rabbit type, and omigod, those are a wild ride.

You might consider getting the type that has attachments. That way you can get an attachment that just works on the outside (clit), or accepts a dildo for penetration, or has the y-shaped dildo for both. Plus you can get the tulip-head attachment for yourself. That's a win-win situation.

I think you can't go wrong with a pocket rocket. It's not intended for insertion and it's not intimidating in any way. Most fun thing about it is that it's small enough to play with WHILE you're with your partner (you catch my drift here?).

The idea of any woman taking a vibrator to bed while I am with her is not a what I would consider fun. I have plenty of fingers and other equipment that she will ever need to get off. I don't want and I don't think any man should have to compete with a piece of plastic cause they tend to win everytime because the batteries can be changed.

My first vibrator was a standard 6" cock shaped, pink, see thru kind. Boy was it powerful, and it opened my mind to other types of vibrators! I say go with something simple first, something she can use internally or externally. Then once she figures what she likes she can specialize in the one that's right for her! The better stores have floor models. As far as I can tell, the Good Vibrations store in San Francisco may be the best bricks-and-mortar retail shop for vibrators.

Every model they sell is somewhere on the floor with batteries, etc. (although naturally you can't do an actual test run for hygienic reasons).

Take her to a fun, female-friendly store like Good Vibrations!
