On the heels of everything that has been going down in the industry and in sports I was wondering if the adult performers would ever consider having mandatory drug tests?

I understand that this is a touchy subject but I personally believe that all adult performers should be subject to drug tests. Just like athletes, they should be tested to make sure that their are no more overdoses or performers with drug problems.

I am not a hate of adult perfomers as I have had the honor and pleasure of dealing with them in interviews. And in some rare instances become friendly with a few. So I guess now is the question I am posing to the fans and the industry members

If nothing is done to prevent them from doing it...

Nothing will change.

Evidence? Look at the history of porn and you will find drug use..always.

Should something be done? Well, some will laugh in your face {what the fuck do I care as long as they are clean during their shoots?) and some will say yes but argue implementing any such restrictions would impinge upon the performer's freedoms.

I ask you a question: is it in the best interest of capital for the industry to require drug tests of its performers? If the answer is yes, it will happen. If the answer is no, you will be laughed out of the room.

Re: Tests. Who would pay for it? I can't see talent paying up. Also as a producer you wouldn't not shoot a girl just because she had taken some drugs like a week before. Any producer with some sense should have zero tolerance for drugs on the actual set even if it's just so they don't get busted.

Everyone should be able to do whatever they want.

You know that if the talent was drug-tested, 90% of the tests would come back positive...

But on set, just come sober.
I hate when i have to do a scene and it s obvious that the talent i work with is high or drunk.
Sometimes they can t even stay still, or stand up.

I will give Melissa Lauren a crap load of credit for being the first to at least tackle this issue.

Look in the regular world we all take drug tests in order to get the job. I think maybe it is the best thing that the same applies to porn. Get some of these girls and guys help.

Before people say more... I was alive when Len Bias died of a Heroin OD. I don't know about everyone but I don't want to see something like that happen to any young lady.

I agree.

The problem is that everyone pretty much just accepts it. During the recent HIV outbreak, I remember several industry people saying in various articles that though the situation was disturbing it was not entirely surprising because any seasoned pro can tell you that such an outbreak is bound to happen statistically every once and a while. I think people feel the same way about the possibility of a drug overdose.

Oh, Gia Palamo OD'ed at AEE?

It's: "is this just a pr stunt?" or "that crazy chick was signing at AEE the next day, god bless her" or "wow! you mean she was the only one?"

Instead of: "shouldn't we be worried about her or trying to help her?"

Drug testing? Now there's a great idea. We can blindfold the girls, make them ingest a number of different drugs, and see if they can tell us what drugs they took. Brilliant!

What a stupid fuckin' idea!
If anyone is gonna have to take regular drug tests, let's start with all elected officials, police officers, members of the military. Then, maybe start on people with vital jobs. But mandatory drug tests for pornstars-waht have you been smokin'.

Sometimes I am so glad I live where I live...

A Canadian girl who came over to visit some friends here uttered surpise when a sick friend got a visit from a doctor send by her employer, she thought that was intrusive, but she wouldn't smoke a joint, because she was working in the USA (in an office job) and her employer did random drug tests and she might test positive then.

I agree.

If a group came along and knocked AIM to the side and really had interest in making the industry more safe and they had a program set up to help a performer if they tested positive for drugs then maybe it would be something to consider. I just think that's likely never going to happen. This group would get fought from every angle and it would take a strong financial supporter to fund this group through it's struggles. It would take some filthy rich Porn fan's money or somebody that made a killing from the industry and wants to give back to the industry that made them wealthy.

Seems way too difficult,

i know some parts of corporate america demands drug testing..but some people dont want to conform into that world.
so they choose occupations which exclude them from the constrictions that come with it.
not just porn stars..musicians, stylists, designers etc...
drug tests are major infringement on ones privacy!

What you dont understand is that most of this people are happy to be on drugs, they dont wanna quit, dont want help.

You can t force someone to quit drugs. It s their own decision.

I think a better idea would be to have a stricter, better regulated STD testing policy implemented by the studios. But, what do I know?...

+100 Steph !!!!

I have never been drug tested by any employer. Unless I was driving a bus, operating machinery or something similar, there would be no valid reason to test me.

The vast majority of problems with recreational drugs, including overdoses, crime, poisoning and HIV infection, are ALL caused by PROHIBITION.

Get the stupid politicians off your backs and most drug problems will disappear.

Drug testing in the porn industry? It is not like they are operating heavy machinery, unless less they are using a sybian, which in that case drug testing should be allowed. I know some people will just want to light a joint and debate this issue though.

Mistaken premise. Sports does not do testing for the safety of the athletes. It is about image and how image affects marketing.
Employers in the US require testing because of potential lost productivity and employee theft. Certainly it has nothing to do with the health of the peons, other than the cost of replacement. Some of it has to do with an uptight generation that had nothing against borderline alcoholism.

For a director I can understand why they don't want to work with somebody under the influence. A person who cannot perform is useless. Somebody hyper or unable to focus adds more time = money.

The problem with this logic is that it isn't your choice to make. Contrary to what some believe.

If a young lady or young man(what, you don't care about men? ) wants to risk using heroin, with all of the available knowledge about the dangers, then you don't get a vote.

Unless, of course, safety of others is involved, obviously.

Steph is correct. If you're a pilot you should be drug tested. If you're the assistant manager at the 99 Cent store, do all the drugs you want so long as you show up for work on time and do your best to make sure that the surplus green beans are stacked properly.

It's funny that alcohol is responsible for more human misery than any legal or illegal narcotic but no one proposes that we "test" for that. If they did, I'd be living under a bridge :)

If we made clean drug tests the criteria for hiring talent in the adult biz I'd be pointing my camera at a vacant sofa or bed on a daily basis.

I don't know anybody who has been given a drug test by their employer - I think it is a lot different in Europe.

What is the drug test to prove anyway? That you haven broken the law, or that you have taken drugs?

If it is to see whether you have broken the law just pop over to a drug friendlier country such as The Netherlands (Amsterdam), where you won't be committing a criminal offence with drugs like marijuana!

Well glad to see that I at least started a intelligent debate here (unlike another chat room that would have been a lot of cursing)

First all military personel, cops, athletes, and anyone who has to take a corporate job is subject to a entry drug test. If they fail they don't get the job.

As far as the drug testing goes, this would be a way for people in this industry to get help! Maybe I am being overly concerned, but I get worried when Gia Paloma OD's; when Taylor Rain can barely string sentences together; when other young women are having major problems because of drugs.

(note to Val Jean; I am not excluding men but it is easier for men in this industry psychology wise because men are treating as gods for doing this... while women are looked down upon as whores.)

I wish that the Adult industry would get some semplance of a union like sports do. This way they could have drug testing and get some of these young women help. Instead of seeing them struggle and have assholes give qoutes like "wow she is a trooper" or "that was a great pr stunt"

If this was their daughter or sister or wife... they would send her to DETOX quicker than you could blink.

"I get worried when Gia Paloma OD's; when Taylor Rain can barely string sentences together; when other young women are having major problems because of drugs."

Hey, you're preaching to the choir man.

I've been trying to stress this point to you though: you are arguing against the entire history of the adult film industry where the assumptions are...

1. Keep the drugs off the set. (I don't see it, it doesn't exist or at least matter)
2. There will always be another girl to take the place of a girl who gets lost on drugs.
3. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The biz ain't for everyone and it never will be.

"If this was their daughter or sister or wife... they would send her to DETOX quicker than you could blink."

How many people seriously regard porn stars as daughters of anyone or sisters of anyone or wives of anyone? And, for your argument, that could be the core of the problem in addition to the reluctance to implement any type of restrictions on a person's behavior if the results of their actions will merely be self-destructive as opposed to fatally effecting anyone else.

Sorry, but that's just not true. There are tons of large and small corporations who do not drug test. I've done plenty of job hunting and always checked the company policy on that item.

The adult industry could take a giant leap forward by simply not hiring people who have proven themselves unprofessional idiots, and by not supporting companies who screw people on a regular basis. It's an industry known for welcoming fuckups. There are a lot of really wonderful people in porn. There are also a bunch of children with no sense of responsiblity or conscience. Drug testing won't solve that problem.

No understanding of the buisness of sports I see.
The Player's Unions fought against testing. When they agreed to it, it was for concessions or when it was obvious the bad PR of drugs would affect buisness to the extent that it would decrease salaries. At no time was drug testing for the health of the union members.
Drug testing does not equal help. Even if there were a union that mandated drug testing there is no need for a producer to hire 'union' porn stars. The users themselves are usually quite aware that they use some drug.

I have always wondered about the extent of drug use in the adult industry. It seems as though whenever it's disgussed here, or on other chat sites, the answers are very ambiqious. As fans posting on these matters we have to be respectfull of the performers and therefore talking about someone's drug problem is not cool. It's a fine line we walk accusing someone of being a drug addict and that is why the truth is still hard to find. When performers such as Trinity Loren and Amber Sexxxum die the details are always vague to say the least. Was it a drug overdose ? I think Sportsswami and Kelly bring up good points here about the dark and undiscovered side of adult....drug use. I don't think random testing would work as it would be hard to regulate when the people doing the tests would most likely be users as well. Quaserman and Melissa Lauren made a few statements that shed just enough light on the situation when they talk about 90% + would fail test and having no talent for shoots. Performers have died before from drug use and nothing is done....swept under the rug so to speak. The truth of porn and it's participants is that it's a deadly, never ending cycle....the stars work to support their habits - there I said it...someone had to. It can't be regulated because when you take a step back and look at the adult industry...the whole thing is built around partying, drugs and sex.

This discussion is just a microcosm. Look at the bigger picture? Did anyone do anything about it when the likes of hendrix, jim morrison, elvis etc etc died of overdosing? These are icons that changed the world!
There are reasons people take drugs. Often its the people with the most talent. Being talented sometimes comes with a price.
If youve never taken drugs youll never understand it.

On one of my few serious notes: I must say that STD testing should trump any drug testing considering they are in a sex industry.

As far as drug testing for work, I know a lot of people that go cold turkey and take pills that make the drug test turn out OK. They just go right back doing it again once they get the job.

Like I said before drug testing should not be a high priority in the sex industry. Though I would hope that directors, other porn stars, and other industry people would intervene if one's drug habit starts to affect one's ability to perform or takes control of one's life.

Somehow a tighter drug policy in porn disturbs me. No offense to anyone, but think about what we are talking about: Ethics in the Porn Industry. Personally, I would never think I would use those two words in a sentence. I am not saying, there is no ethics in the porn industry, by no means. It somewhat bothers me on thinking that some posters maybe arguing for a tighter drug policy in the porn industry, while in other threads they are arguing for more condomless anal action, cream pies, cum swallowing, cum swapping, etc. Think that they are arguing for a tighter drug policy, but taking more risk in their scenes does not mix well for me. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the same hardcore acts like the next pervert. At the same time, I do not want to see some drugged out person on a porn set. Some posters may drink a pot of coffee a day (caffeine is a legal drug), smoke a pack of cigarettes a day (tobacco is a legal drug) and drink alcohol daily (alcohol is a legal drug).

I can not help but think that there are better ethical topics that we can talk about. I look at my daily life. I wake up, eat my bowl of cereal (my milk has probably produced by a cow with a growth hormone), take a bath, wash my hair, put on hair spray (that is killing the Ozone layer), put on my clothes (that may have been made in a sweat shop), go to work (my CEO makes over 200 times my salary not including bonuses and compensation, while he/she generates huge profits and tries to ship my job overseas to make more money) in my gas guzzling SUV (SUV was assembled outside of the U.S. along with the manufacturing of its parts - while my payment of gas goes to someone in the Mideast that wants to destroy America), eat lunch (which is nothing but processed meat), go home, eat dinner (eat vegetables that are genetically altered, while my meat has been injected with a growth hormone), and go to bed.

I am not going to buy or rent a porn thinking: I wonder what the drug policy or the social responsibility of the porn company. Most Americans do not think of the products that they are buying on how they maybe contributing to American jobs being sent overseas. I have worked at companies that were get penny pinched by Wal-Mart and Home Depot, both companies have no choice but to close 1/2 of their American plants and invest their money in plants being built in Mexico and China.

I am sorry if I offended anyone. My post was in no way, shape or form intended to offend someone, but intended to make people think about how our daily lifestyles affect the world that we live in.

I never really understood the concern of some posters about drug use in porn. I couldn't care less. Heck, half the fun of watching it is guessing what drug the various performers may be on.
