| TheSportswami Member Boston 13 Posts 1/05 | On the heels of everything that has been going down in the industry and in sports I was wondering if the adult performers would ever consider having mandatory drug tests? I understand that this is a touchy subject but I personally believe that all adult performers should be subject to drug tests. Just like athletes, they should be tested to make sure that their are no more overdoses or performers with drug problems. I am not a hate of adult perfomers as I have had the honor and pleasure of dealing with them in interviews. And in some rare instances become friendly with a few. So I guess now is the question I am posing to the fans and the industry members [Link] |

Well, some will laugh in your face {what the fuck do I care as long as they are clean during their shoots?) and some will say yes but argue implementing any such restrictions would impinge upon the performer's freedoms. I ask you a question: is it in the best interest of capital for the industry to require drug tests of its performers? If the answer is yes, it will happen. If the answer is no, you will be laughed out of the room. Kelly Edited by - tscfan317 on 1/21/2005 2:11:24 PM |

| TheSportswami Member Boston 13 Posts 1/05 | Look in the regular world we all take drug tests in order to get the job. I think maybe it is the best thing that the same applies to porn. Get some of these girls and guys help. Before people say more... I was alive when Len Bias died of a Heroin OD. I don't know about everyone but I don't want to see something like that happen to any young lady. |
| -Kelly- Senior Member 2517 Posts 5/03 | "I don't know about everyone but I don't want to see something like that happen to any young lady." I agree. The problem is that everyone pretty much just accepts it. During the recent HIV outbreak, I remember several industry people saying in various articles that though the situation was disturbing it was not entirely surprising because any seasoned pro can tell you that such an outbreak is bound to happen statistically every once and a while. I think people feel the same way about the possibility of a drug overdose. Oh, Gia Palamo OD'ed at AEE? It's: "is this just a pr stunt?" or "that crazy chick was signing at AEE the next day, god bless her" or "wow! you mean she was the only one?" Instead of: "shouldn't we be worried about her or trying to help her?" Kelly Edited by - tscfan317 on 1/21/2005 4:23:36 PM |

I just think that's likely never going to happen. This group would get fought from every angle and it would take a strong financial supporter to fund this group through it's struggles. It would take some filthy rich Porn fan's money or somebody that made a killing from the industry and wants to give back to the industry that made them wealthy. Seems way too difficult, AC Cream Edited by - AC Cream on 1/21/2005 7:23:21 PM |

Unless I was driving a bus, operating machinery or something similar, there would be no valid reason to test me. The vast majority of problems with recreational drugs, including overdoses, crime, poisoning and HIV infection, are ALL caused by PROHIBITION. Get the stupid politicians off your backs and most drug problems will disappear. |

Employers in the US require testing because of potential lost productivity and employee theft. Certainly it has nothing to do with the health of the peons, other than the cost of replacement. Some of it has to do with an uptight generation that had nothing against borderline alcoholism. For a director I can understand why they don't want to work with somebody under the influence. A person who cannot perform is useless. Somebody hyper or unable to focus adds more time = money. |

If a young lady or young man(what, you don't care about men? ) wants to risk using heroin, with all of the available knowledge about the dangers, then you don't get a vote. Unless, of course, safety of others is involved, obviously. |

If they did, I'd be living under a bridge :) If we made clean drug tests the criteria for hiring talent in the adult biz I'd be pointing my camera at a vacant sofa or bed on a daily basis. Quaze |

| rrankin Member London, England 87 Posts 6/04 | What is the drug test to prove anyway? That you haven broken the law, or that you have taken drugs? If it is to see whether you have broken the law just pop over to a drug friendlier country such as The Netherlands (Amsterdam), where you won't be committing a criminal offence with drugs like marijuana! |

| TheSportswami Member Boston 13 Posts 1/05 | First all military personel, cops, athletes, and anyone who has to take a corporate job is subject to a entry drug test. If they fail they don't get the job. As far as the drug testing goes, this would be a way for people in this industry to get help! Maybe I am being overly concerned, but I get worried when Gia Paloma OD's; when Taylor Rain can barely string sentences together; when other young women are having major problems because of drugs. (note to Val Jean; I am not excluding men but it is easier for men in this industry psychology wise because men are treating as gods for doing this... while women are looked down upon as whores.) I wish that the Adult industry would get some semplance of a union like sports do. This way they could have drug testing and get some of these young women help. Instead of seeing them struggle and have assholes give qoutes like "wow she is a trooper" or "that was a great pr stunt" If this was their daughter or sister or wife... they would send her to DETOX quicker than you could blink. |
| -Kelly- Senior Member 2517 Posts 5/03 | Hey, you're preaching to the choir man. I've been trying to stress this point to you though: you are arguing against the entire history of the adult film industry where the assumptions are... 1. Keep the drugs off the set. (I don't see it, it doesn't exist or at least matter) "If this was their daughter or sister or wife... they would send her to DETOX quicker than you could blink." How many people seriously regard porn stars as daughters of anyone or sisters of anyone or wives of anyone? And, for your argument, that could be the core of the problem in addition to the reluctance to implement any type of restrictions on a person's behavior if the results of their actions will merely be self-destructive as opposed to fatally effecting anyone else. The adult industry could take a giant leap forward by simply not hiring people who have proven themselves unprofessional idiots, and by not supporting companies who screw people on a regular basis. It's an industry known for welcoming fuckups. There are a lot of really wonderful people in porn. There are also a bunch of children with no sense of responsiblity or conscience. Drug testing won't solve that problem. |

The Player's Unions fought against testing. When they agreed to it, it was for concessions or when it was obvious the bad PR of drugs would affect buisness to the extent that it would decrease salaries. At no time was drug testing for the health of the union members. Drug testing does not equal help. Even if there were a union that mandated drug testing there is no need for a producer to hire 'union' porn stars. The users themselves are usually quite aware that they use some drug. |

| squirtfan1 Member Flower 435 Posts 8/04 | As far as drug testing for work, I know a lot of people that go cold turkey and take pills that make the drug test turn out OK. They just go right back doing it again once they get the job. Like I said before drug testing should not be a high priority in the sex industry. Though I would hope that directors, other porn stars, and other industry people would intervene if one's drug habit starts to affect one's ability to perform or takes control of one's life. |
| squirtfan1 Member Flower 435 Posts 8/04 | I can not help but think that there are better ethical topics that we can talk about. I look at my daily life. I wake up, eat my bowl of cereal (my milk has probably produced by a cow with a growth hormone), take a bath, wash my hair, put on hair spray (that is killing the Ozone layer), put on my clothes (that may have been made in a sweat shop), go to work (my CEO makes over 200 times my salary not including bonuses and compensation, while he/she generates huge profits and tries to ship my job overseas to make more money) in my gas guzzling SUV (SUV was assembled outside of the U.S. along with the manufacturing of its parts - while my payment of gas goes to someone in the Mideast that wants to destroy America), eat lunch (which is nothing but processed meat), go home, eat dinner (eat vegetables that are genetically altered, while my meat has been injected with a growth hormone), and go to bed. I am not going to buy or rent a porn thinking: I wonder what the drug policy or the social responsibility of the porn company. Most Americans do not think of the products that they are buying on how they maybe contributing to American jobs being sent overseas. I have worked at companies that were get penny pinched by Wal-Mart and Home Depot, both companies have no choice but to close 1/2 of their American plants and invest their money in plants being built in Mexico and China. I am sorry if I offended anyone. My post was in no way, shape or form intended to offend someone, but intended to make people think about how our daily lifestyles affect the world that we live in. |
