| floraman Member Germany 224 Posts 8/03 |  Posted - Jun 3 2004 : 12:05PMI'm directing this post in the first instance towards Tricia, in her capacity as a porn producer who contributes regularly to these forums, so that she can give her take on it as an "insider", but of course anyone else should feel free to chime in as well. Speaking as a "consumer", when I visit both bricks-and-mortar DVD outlets or online porn vendor sites, I'm often put off spending maybe 30 Euros or more on a DVD just for a single scene that I'm interested in seeing. I might rent, but I won't buy. This is because there are very few modern US movies that I'm interested in actually buying because frankly, for the most part they don't cater to my own particular kink, which is girls in garter belts & stockings (although there is the very occasional notable exception like JJ's "Trained Teens 2", for which I cheerfully shelled out 35 Euros and considered it money well spent). And I'm sure that there are plenty of others out there who don't buy as many porn DVDs as they otherwise would because their own particular tastes in porn are under-represented in the vast majority of movies that are churned out by the big producers. But how different it would be if I could download (for a fair price of course) individual SCENES from producers' own Web sites!!!! Given what's currently happening with music downloading, as a (possibly naive) outsider looking in, this seems to me to be a possible way ahead for the future. That way a consumer could just purchase the scenes he / she is interested in at a price proportional to the street price of the movie in question (or entire movies at a more "regular" price). And the producer is still making money because Joe Consumer is prepared to spend say 5 or 10 Dollars / Euros or whatever to get hold of just the 1 or 2 scenes he's interested in, whereas he'd otherwise draw the line at paying full whack for a DVD just to get that one particular scene, and just rents instead. I know that it's possible to view movies online and maybe what I'm talking about is already happening to a greater or lesser degree and I'm seriously out of touch (I've never signed up to any producers' Web sites so don't know exactly what they offer). And I'm sure I'm about to be deluged with cries of "yes but …" from people pointing out the pitfalls involved (I don't claim to have all the answers!) Edited by - floraman on Jun 3 2004 [Link] |

Quite simply because the retail prices of CDs and DVDs are disproportionately high. If they were made CHEAPER, people would buy MORE from legitimate sources and the music & movie companies would in turn make more money. [Link] |

But i usually never get this feeling with EA DVDs :) While pirates all over the net can supply good quallity (DIVx or VIDx or whatever compression is used) rips of dozens of DVds on a scene per scene basis i often wondered why Studios couldn´t offer the same. And i ain´t gonna buy any scenes that carry an expiration date ... neither online nor as disposable DVD. I´d rather buy the original DVD rip the scenes i want ... create the dvd i want ... and then sell the originals again. Given the price for a dvd rental ... it´s almost not possible to beat that price with a online offer. But so i just get the original-dvds i want and skip everything else no matter what. We've looked into an alternative form of something kind of similar... A video scene warehouse company would digitize individual scenes from many companies. A customer would go online and order specific scenes, which would be burned for a custom DVD for that person. As far as doing individual on the company (and director's) sites in DivX format, that is something that I will see if the EA directors would be willing to do. Thanks! [Link] |

And also I wouldn't pay for any movie that featured DRM (Digital Rights Management). Just my $0.02. Anyway keep up the good DVD work at Evil Angel. [Link] |
