| dogzcatcher All-Star Member Fat bottomed girls make the rockin' world go round! 1551 Posts 5/09 | I've noticed a definite difference in the resolutions of different formats, dvd's from retailers, thumbdrives from retailers, and downloads from HotMovies.com, that adult content is distributed. I haven't been impressed with the clarity of the videos from the thumbdrives I've purchased from cduniverse. I know the larger the file, the better the quality. I'd prefer crisp, sharp images, vs grainy fuzzy ones. When I right click on a video file, I can see the properties related to that video file. I know what the width and height are. They determine the pixel dimensions of the screen size, used when producing the video. I understand what the "frames per second" mean. I don't know what a bitrate is regarding the resolution of the video. Could someone explain what exactly is a bitrate? Thanks! ( edit to note I answered my own question, via Wikipedia) "Bitrate represents the amount of information or detail, that is stored per unit of time of a recording" "Generally, choices are made...between minimizing the bitrate and maximizing the quality of the material when it is played." In other words, it measures how much data is transmitted in a given amount of time. Bitrate is commonly measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (Kbps), or megabits per second (Mbps). For example, a DSL connection may be able to download data at 768 kbps, while a Firewire 800 connection can transfer data up to 800 Mbps. Bitrate can also describe the quality of an audio or video file. For example, an MP3 audio file that is compressed at 192 Kbps will have a greater dynamic range and may sound slightly more clear than the same audio file compressed at 128 Kbps. This is because more bits are used to represent the audio data for each second of playback. Similarly, a video file that is compressed at 3000 Kbps will look better than the same file compressed at 1000 Kbps. Just like the quality of an image is measured in resolution, the quality of an audio or video file is measured by the bitrate. |
