POSITIVES -The increasing popularity of two of my favorite stars-Riley Reid & AJ Applegate. -My favorite director, Mason, abandoning the sinking ship that is Elegant Angel and creating HardX. (This is assuming that she's going to produce more movies, more frequently, now than she did under EA.) What's even better is the news that she's got a facial movie in the works, one that should be just as good as her fantastic Massive Facials series. -Massive Facials 6, my favorite DVD purchase of the year and probably the best of the 6 Massive Facials movies. SURPRISE -Bonnie Rotten; I've never been crazy about tat-covered chicks and 99% of the time I prefer a pornstar before she had a boob job, but she became the exception for me this year. Obviously, I loved her scene in MF6, but she also did some awesome stuff for Evil Angel, like Sloppy Head 5, Anal Required and especially Whores Ink. And I have to say, I definitely prefer her with the big fake tits she's got now. NEGATIVES -The HIV scare and subsequent porn moratorium. Not only did it scare the crap out of everyone, but the resulting moratorium has really pushed back production dates and movie releases. -The end of the Massive Facials series; I assume with Mason's departure from EA, that there won't be anymore movies in this series. Maybe EA will allow a new director to continue it, but I doubt it with how fucked up that company seems to be right now (7 months since the release of MF6 and there's absolutely no indication that they're going to produce MF7). -The growing popularity of these stupid and unflattering bikinis in porn: [Link]

The popularity and overexposure of some stars baffles me and the under-use of some more established stars is just as upsetting. I saw a few good scenes from Dani Daniels, Riley Reid, Maddy O'Reilly, and Lily Carter (who has unfortunately been absent most of the year). The HIV scare halted production on some stuff, a huge negative. I, the author of the "Who to Watch in 2013" thread, took a big step back. Hardly any newbies turned my head and the more established starlets were much more sparse than I'd have preferred. So a low grade, C, so far. Some more movies are set to drop. [Link]

Now with Siri joining Katie and Monica in doing IR there will be even less scenes for me to enjoy. Before anyone complains about that comment, I have no problem with her doing it. I just don't watch it because it doesn't turn me on. When I watch porn I like to place myself in the scene (I have a very vivid imagination, what can I say?) and it's hard to slip into that mindframe when the male talent is a different race. Anyway, at the beginning of the year I was subscribing to Brazzers, naughty America and Reality Kings. RK is the only one left, I dropped the other two for constantly shooting with inferior male talent (with the exception of Johnny Sins) and watching the women clearly bored while being fucked. Now I pick up the odd dvd by Quasar or buy scenes cheap on VOD. So yea, pornwise for me it's been a bad year. [Link]

Better content than I expected from Ash Hollywood and Allie Haze was also good news. Teal Conrad and Whitney Westgate haven't departed scene and I still have high hopes for both women. Really good year in lesbian porn with several companies putting out exciting movies. The return of Jay Sin is a plus. Negatives: The shake-up at Elegant Angel left us feeling empty in September. Malena Morgan's recent departure from RK and possibly the business is a downer. STD hiatus dominated the late summer in porn. [Link]

I'm hoping the porn industry gurus realize how serious the HIV issue still is and take the proper precautions to ensure a safer environment for the performers. I mean, think of how many quit or took a hiatus toward the last half of the year. My suggestion to EA for 2014? Two "Superstar" extravaganzas. In order to make up for the lack of a Superstar September this year, they should give us a Superstar Spring AND a Superstar September in 2014. Release a volume of the Gangbanged series for each "Superstar" and give us movies for the following women: Riley Reid, Dani Daniels, Maddy O'Reilly, Annika Albrite, AJ Applegate, Siri, and, if they can convince her to come back for one insane guest appearance, Gracie Glam. Throw in a few other features and now we're talking! 2014 also needs to put and emphasis on "firsts". I don't care whether it's IR, anal, DP, gangbangs, orgies, bukkakes, G/G, B/B/G, DAP, DPP, etc. 2013 was abysmal when it came to firsts. Granted, we did get some decent ones but not enough to live up to 2012, 2011, and 2010. Also, I'm looking forward to Lexi Belle's announcement in January. My prediction is that she is going to start directing or launch her own production company. And, I really hope if she has that kind of control, she'll convince herself to start performing again. Slowing down from some of my faves or going through the motions in some cringeworthy scenes. Many starlets being overexposed, it feels like the same line-ups every 2 movies. Internal problems at some of the studios (DP, ElegantA). Agents not looking for the best interest of their clients. HIV moratoriums and having to deal with uncontrolled and unsupervised talent escorting. [Link]

I'm pleasantly surprised at their quality. Few stars returned or had notable stints during the year - like Holly Halston, Devon, Emma Starr, Vanilla Deville... The "good" cross-overs of A. Augustine, D. Dixon, A. Love, Ch Deville, S. Brielle. Tremendously gifted stars groomed at Twistys. Profesionalising of Pornfidelity was very welcome. Moratorium caused some companies (RK and ZZ notably) to show what was in their vaults. Before the Summer it was ridiculous how you could wait for certain scenes from 9 months to 2 years, hopefully not anymore. Everything said I give this year a 5/10. A lot of good trends arose. [Link]
