I'm talking about a real Hollywood budget with good actors/actresses. The only diference would be that the love scenes would feature real porn. I don't think any of Hollywood's finest would do this but I'm sure there are some Pornstars or up-in-coming (no pun intended) actors/actresses who would jump on this (no pun intended). These are willfully perverse images to be sure, but they are charged with all kinds of socio sexual underpinings (intentional or not) which, perhaps by default, elevate the form into true cinema. If porn isn't transgressive, shocking, disturbing, subversive it is banal and meaningless.  [Link] |

Films which are clearly XXX get vastly less viewership than R or lower rated films do. The great majority of cinemas in the U.S. won't show such movies. (Actually very few XXX hardcore movies are shot on film today or ever shown in cinemas, unlike during the "Golden Age" before widespead home tape machines -- they're straight to tape.) Hence a true X title can't support Hollywood mainstream economics, or anything remotely close to it. About the biggest porn budgets these days are in the $250,000 range, and the're aren't many up there. Gonzo's often come in around $10-20K, or maybe sometimes up to $50K from what I've read. The most likely place for that to happen first in America is in Indie cinema -- because of it's vastly lower economics than mainstream. Although American indies have played with sexually taboo areas, such as mother-son incest in Spanking the Monkey, and father-daughter incest in Wicked, it isn't hardcore sex organs explicit stuff. That remains a borderline which the great majority of mainstream/indie actresses don't want to cross. It does seriously taint their careers still. Much easier to bring porn actress up into Indie productions. I suspect why this hasn't happened more is that American indie film tends to have feminist oriented audiences, some significant percentage of which might be offended by true hardcore in a supposedly serious indie film. But that is pure speculation. As French guy says, where that is happening a little bit is Europe, specifically France. Maybe as well Spain, I'm not sure. Romance and Baise Moi so far that I know of. (I wish Victorio would get it together to send me that tape of Baise Moi I want to pay him for so I can see it already!!! <gg>) It will be interesting if some of the Dogme school Danish and other directors take this up. They do after all use gonzo porn type hand held cameras and lighting (or no lighting) as it is. Romance is rentable on DVD in the US w/English subtitles, and worth checking out, though it's ultimately got a rather dark perspective. It's got clear hardcore scenes, the first one of which lingers rather a long time on Rocco's substantial equipment, and his use of it.
