Its bad enough when the phone rings and you look at the display and spend ages trying to remember how you know them. Must be a nightmare when half the people in your address book have 2 names. Even harder at 5am!

Whaddya do?

- Pornstar name then say brackets with the real name?
- Real name, then pornstar name in brackets?
- Its all in your head?
- Affectionate pet names, like 'Dave', 'Daggie', 'Short Fat One'?

I have both in my cell phone book. But not in the same listing, I'll have their real name or their porn name. The directors I have I put just their directing name.

I don't get it. Both? Different listing?

Err, who can I pick on who won't mind, umm, totally random example: so would an inbound call say Tricia or Karen?

Interesting question, I'd always wondered whether pornstars refer to each other by real name or stage name off set myself

I have the person's stage name listed first and their real name listed second. That way I know who is calling without having to memorize the names twice. There are actually people that don't ever call me anything but my stage name, which is cool too. I just try to know both names in case they call and say, "Hi this is :insert real name here: I just wanted to see how you are, etc." and I have no clue who they are.

This is an interesting topic and actually goes further than just the cell. I do websites for several PB models and know dozens more and some use stage names.

I list their real names in my cell usually, with the exception of those who actually have a separate # for the stage name. Where it can get interesting is in chat or message board settings, especially when you may be on the phone calling them by their real name and typing simultaneously to their screenname. lol

I do know that I take their privacy very seriously and that is a must.

I think when you become a "super pornstar" you kind of want to let the world know your real name.

Of course, back in the golden age - alot of them just did not care and used their real names because they thought they were actors. For example, John Holmes, Ron Jermey, Jamie Gillis, John Leslie. These are the guys but alot more names were disclosed when the ladies became super stars.

It is a real puzzlement when they start out and change names three or four times in a year; so at the end of their career they have a dozen names that they did work under. That makes it extremely tough if you happen to be a fan of theirs and want to buy some of their work!

Ron Jeremy isn't his real name, IIRC. Isn't it something that just oozes "jewish"??

stage names. generally when i meet someone i am not that close to know their real name, soi enter in their stage.

it just becomes easier....only once i had a girl by her real name, Eva, but every time i tried calling her i'd flip to "e" and not see her..it became a pain. LOL

For that one, I have "Tricia" because one of my best friends at home is named Karen. So "Tricia" makes is less confusing...at least that's how it's supposed to work.

Last year, at the beginning of the AEE convention, I stopped at the Evil Angel booth and Tricia wasn't there. So I asked someone to let her know that I had stopped by. About 10 minutes later, my cell phone rings and says "Karen Cell". I completely forgot about my friend at home, and answered the phone as if I were talking to Tricia. It took a few moments for my friend to ask "What the hell are you talking about?"

i never address anyone by their real name, some people actually get annoyed with me, I lived with Ivan for how long and he's still Ivan in my phone. The reason is some one is always rolling or listening and if you get comfortable calling some one their real name you will do it at the wrong time. it's called a name bomb. no one has ever done it to me and i have only done it once, to Jack Napier cause I called him the name he was introduced to me as in the movie.

Stage name should only be a way to look coller. I mean what shound betther between "Shawn Michaels" and "Michael Shawn Hickenbottom" Its easy to understand why this guy wanted to use just Shawn Michaels.

But hiding and acting like crazy over your real name...lol its not if you where performing with a mask on the head. If somebody watch porn and see you at the gas station or anywhere else he will recognize you, and if he dosen't watch porn he won't no matter if you use your real name or not. Some people could fear that there home or number or else be found with there real name, but think about that, just in my area phone book there are like 12 or so peoples call the same name most of the time, so in the entire country ...there must be hundreds...try to find who is the pornstar in them...

Yes, but is their privacy right to maintain an alias. If someone does notice them in real life AND they know what they do for a living, they'll have some courtesy and just not say it.

I've seen/said it in the past, where all too many myspace "friends" who knew a performer pre-porn, and they inadvertantly name bomb them. IMO, mostly in part because they recognize them physically, not knowing that they do/did porn for a living, or even what their stage name is. One recent incident, a performer slipped & told me about another's child. As far as I'm concerned, it's none of my business unless the performer is that comfortable with me.

The problem with your reverse thinking is that some sick SOB WOULD try to find the pornstar. We have alot of disturbed people in the US, who can't keep their hands out of others lives ~ whether it's a fucked up infatuation with someone, or wanting to put a burning cross on their front lawn when they find out their so-called impurities. For this type of thing, Wikipedia is a plague. Because once some dirtbag with no regard to another's privacy learns of a performer's name, they plaster it up on the Wikipedia "database" thinking they've just contributed something of worth.

I don't mind when people know or call me by my real first name but I don't want the male talent to use my real name in the movies. It only happened to me once. I wasn't really close to the guy but he remembered my name from my AIM test.

I was hanging out with Seymore Butts & Taylor Hayes at the bar in the Trump Taj Mahal during the East Coast Video Show about 10 years ago. Taylor accidentally called Seymore "Adam" (this was before any of his court cases or his Showtime show. So very few people knew him as Adam Glasser at the time).

The expression on his face was as if she had just accidentally revealed the plans to build a nuclear weapon.

Thats how it feels! Every one handles porn diffrently but some people have a total duel nature and the real name in a porn setting is an icy cold bucket of water

I caught an eye of this one day, and all I have to ask (if I see you again in person) is "how the heck does one pronouce that?"
Either way, I just don't feel I'm privy to such info unless I hear it from the horse's (or 'da ho's' perhaps?) mouth.

I generally put them as their stage name although I know the girl's legal name. But in person, if she wants to be called by her legal name(especially some who are good friends), I can call her by that.

A lot of the UK girls use their real first name (and even their real last name), so that makes it easy for me, since I mostly know UK performers. Otherwise they are under the name they introduced themselves with when I first met them. With a few exceptions.

People do make mistakes Kami.

I have a couple of performers in my address book and hence cell phone. I use whatever name they give me - if they use their stage name with me then that's what gets entered, even if I know the real name.

As a lot of people here know, I used to protect my real name pretty carefully. Probably moreso a throwback to my stripper days when stalkers were a bigger problem.

If there hadn't been some slipups, I probably would still be known to my non-friends only as Tricia, but now it doesn't really matter anymore.

It's a good way to weed things out at the office though, cause if the receptionist buzzs me and says there's a call for Tricia, it's pretty likely to be someone I don't actually know in person. Either that, or a porn performer who only knows me from sets.

To answer Robbie's question, in my cell, I have almost all porn people by their stage names unless I knew them by their real name first, or entered their name after I got to know them so well outside of work that I call them by their real name more often. I'd say over 98% of the porn people in my cell are entered by their stage name.

The other day, I was calling Jules Jordan, and went down to 'J' in my address book and his name wasn't there. I didn't think that I might have entered it under his real name, so I just typed in the number and hit send, and when my phone started calling, it showed that I had indeed stored his number under his real name. Strange.

Sometimes when I get to be friends with someone, I'll look in my address book under their stage name to dial them, and then when they answer, call them by their real name.

Blah... it was a lot easier when I just called EVERYONE by their stagename. :)

Bill - I don't think I heard that story before.... funny. :)

I'm usually so confused by everyone's different protocols that I just use the stage name, unless it seems more goofy or awkward not to ... But if I REALLY like somebody, I probably already made up a name for them, and I call them that.

What's funnier is calling ADT people by their ADT name instead of their real name.

The funny part is watching him introduce himself as ObiBong, while telling you his real name at the same time. He looks like he wants to crawl into a hole from embarrassment. It apparently never occurred to him that he would actually meet the people from ADT when he signed up with that name.

I know a select few stars by name and have known many strippers by name, but I always call people by their stage name. You never know who listening and you never know who knows people by name.

Rather than slip up, I keep it ficticious.

This is a fascinating thread and here I think that the work of Erving Goffman and the analysis in 'Presentation of Self in Everyday Life,' can be very illuminating. For Goffman human action fits into one of two different categories frontstage and backstage. Frontstage is the public face of the self and calls on us to put our best foot forward as we want to make a positive impression and influence other people. Backstage, however is that private space where we can let our guard down and where we can do things without the fear of embarrasment or shame like nose picking, farting, having sex, outward displays of emotion etc...The important thing is that the individual retains control of how he/she presents herself in societal interactions. In situations where the individual loses that control in an institutional setting like an asylum, or even the internet ie...Wikipedia, he/she faces stigmatization and dehumanization.

This is why alaises in porn are so important. It allows the performer to control her backstage/frontstage presentations avoid stigma and preserve their sense of self and dignity.

As a civilian I would never refer to a pornstar by their 'real' name because, it could be construed as an assualt on her personhood. Beyond the real or imagined fear of being physically assualted is the fear of the loss of self identity and dignity.

I am SO glad that MorbidThoughts doesn't mind people using his real name in person... I remember the first time meeting him, I had NO idea what to call him, cause I sure as hell wasn't going to say, "Hi Morbid, nice to meet you."

And I'm going to call Obi that forever, just because. :) LOL

I remember that moment because you hesitated and then said, "I don't know what to call you".

Morbidthoughts was actually never meant to be a nickname. I get annoyed when people call me that although I let a couple of people slide using a variation because they say it with such affection. Well that and they slaughter my real name.
