I don't think that $1.99 OEM crippled Nero lets you do a lot, anyway. You have to pay for the real version if you want full functionality.

I'm trying to burn some shit to DVD, but it won't let me. Does it have to be a "DVD format" to burn? I thought you could burn anything, eg data

ImgBurn burns disc images (hence the name). You can use it to burn data, but it's a two-step process. First, you have to build the .iso (image), which you do by going to Mode --> Build. After you do that, you go to Mode --> Write to burn the image you just created.

The advantage of using Nero is that it sort of combines the two steps - you just select the data files you want, then tell it to burn a disc.
