What CPU, memory rquirements, hard drive, dvd burner, and software would be recommended? Is the dvd burner standard fixed yet? I don't want to spend two arms and 2 legs and preferably I should spend under $1500. I was playing with the desktops at Dell and the price quickly got up when I started adding stuff. Should I even consider going the Mac route as I am not a Mac user? That way, I can go to New Orleans and make my own tapes and dvds of nakid people (for my own use only of course ). Ron [Link]

Then you have to reinvest you money into software which you can no longer use on your mac. My suggestion is getting something custom built. YOu could probably spend about 700-900 without monitor to satisfy your needs. My suggestions are: 512mb Ram minimum 1GHz+ CPU Windows XP or 2000 professional. 80+ 7200RPM Gig Hard drive. DVDs are big the more space the better, Faster that space is the better. DVD-R drive. You may elect to purchase sonic dvd it. Or Pinnical Studio DVD software. you may also visit http://www.vcdhelp.com to see how they convert Video to DVD, and other digital formats. Yes some things they talk about are of questionable legality. But the techniques they use are very good for legit reasons such as yours. Pinnical sells probably the easiest to use software. Goldmember Member 518 Posts 7/02	Posted - Mar 10 2003 : 1:11AM I would not dismiss a Mac so quickly based on cost. Given their specs there are very competetivly priced. An eMac with a 800MHz G4 chip and 512MB RAM with an built in 17" monitor, CD burner & DVD burner is only going to cost you $1,399.00. That inculeds all the software you would need to edit, mix and author your own DVDs using Apples iLife apps. And I assure you it will e easier to learn. If you have a good monitor, you could come in at just under $1.500.00 for a 1GHz G4 Tower. Plus the new Mac OS X is simply stunning! Just my two cents. [Link]

Click to expand I agree that you dont have to buy fastest cpu but I think 1 GHz is bit too slow if buying nowadays. 2 GHz would be a good choice and quite cheap. Another important component is the video card. The two main chipsets are ATI Radeon and Nvidia GeForce 4. At the moment I own a GeForce4mx which is not very good so i recommend a GF4 TI4200 (but its just my personal preference of Nvidia over ATI) [Link]

You should be able to do a 2400+, DVDR, 80GB of 7200RPM IDE, & 1GB DDR Memory easily within your budget. This machine will accomodate your multimedia needs. If you purchase the Sony DRU500A (the one I bought) it includes MyDVD and RecordNow Max SE. Both are fairly spartan, but they do work. You can always upgrade later to DVD-It or Reel-DVD for authoring, and RecordNow Max (full) or Nero for Burning. [Link]

Click to expand Right, but what i think is really more important is the fact that there is quite a bit difference between Apple's OS and Microsoft OS (same with Linux). If you are experienced computer user at all you might get along with it after a while but if you are not using it (lets say) every day... it might cost you some nerves [Link]
