Yes, the site is now down. Unfortunately it is true. I was able to see the contracts of Persia, Penny Flame, Steve Holmes and John Strong with their legal names, address and so on.
I saw it. I don't think it was hacked, it had to be someone who worked there who was pissed and replaced the boxcovers. How would an outside person have that information?
But if it was someone from the outside, why would RLD keep scans of their talent info contracts on their web server? That's just plain dumb.
If a non-porn employer allowed their employee HR records to be compromised and published, you'd better believe it would end up with some major lawsuits of the employees/contractors against the employer for failure to safeguard their personal information. With 2257 now in place, I wonder how many porn agencies have taken proper precautions to safeguard their talent info accordingly?
You have to keep the records but I would argue you should not keep them on the same webserver as your consumer site. That is really palin stupid!
If it was really a pissed-off employee, that is actually even worse and frankly I do not think somebody would be stupid enough to do this, as the administrator of the site will surely find out who it was.
here's an article from x biz with a link to actual rules http://xbiz.com/article_piece.php?cat=40&id=4143
when all this shit happened I remember reading we had to have a cross referenced database for both hard copy and internet stored on the server I built one for me and another party
however I cant find the passage now so maybe I'm wrong.
I believe the DoJ rules were that you had to have the ID database in electronic form. I don't recall anything about it having to be accessible from the Internet.
If companies try to do it on the cheap and use one server for everything, then the database being hacked is more likely to occur. That's why the ID database should be on a separate box that is not accessible from the Internet. Of course, we don't know whether this was hackers or an inside job.

to the OP-you just did something really shitty running here to announce that. you just drove a bunch of traffic to the lists in the small window that was going to stay up.
most people here are nice people and passionate fans-that's the 200 or so that post enough assume that. there are a LOT of people reading you don't know dick about except they're EXACTLY the demographic that scares the shit out of girls post 2257. they're afraid of stalkers, asshole--you just managed to reach the biggest target audience of potential ones. for every morbidthoughts or bono who represent the fan you want to have, there's probably one reading at the same time they're posting.
now a few of them have fucking ss#'s asshole. i love gossip and tweaking people a bit with stuff that may not be flattering-but you just basically sold a whole group of people's privacy out to the EXACT people they use stage names
i hope some 15-year old puts your fucking credit report and kid's birth-certificate up. dick.
You can host a commercial website remotely at a hosting provider. Meaning the computer serving the website is not physically at the location where the business is. You are in effect renting harddrive space from a company that has a lot of it and they have a really fast connection.
Or you can run your own webserver with your own machine hosting the website, but you're going to pay a lot more for bandwidth. So for example, if you're hosting at your house, you have to pay for a much faster web connection to deal with your traffic. Plus if something goes wrong, you have to deal with it yourself.
Now if that's the case, that they're running the website at their business instead of using a hosting provider, that's fine.
But I would say that I would have 2 separate computers, one hosting the website, and another one for keeping records.
There is absolutely no reason for that private information to be on a computer that is hosting a website.
Potentially, the reason it's there is so that whatever powers that be that need to see the contracts get them via email. That's probably why they're scanned, but it's just plain stupid to scan and store people's SSN's and DL's along with their home address, real names and phone number on a machine that has an assload of traffic.
Now with everyone jumping ship at RLD, I'm inclined to believe that someone was pissed.
That's awful. If I'd ever worked for them, I'd be worried about identity theft. I hope everybody takes precautions. Check your credit card and checking account balances, etc. Keep an eye open for fraudulent charges. I feel for the victims. I'll cross my fingers for ya.
Sounds like you don't give a shit about me or any of the performers. If you did, you wouldn't have brought it to the attention of the thousands of people reading this thread.
Usually there are different tiers of pricing. Sometimes you're on a box that is shared with other people hosting their websites on the same box. That's what would be called a shared account, but you don't see their stuff and they don't see yours. You basically are renting a folder on a harddrive. When someone goes to your website, the hosting company directs them to your folder. Many small companies do this.
The more expensive option is if you rent a dedicated server. Now with this you have more flexibility in that you can install pretty much anything you want on it. For exmample, maybe you have some custom Webcam software that tracks how long an individual customer is logged into your stream and keeps a log of unique ip addresses. But with a dedicated server, you have more control, but you also shoulder more responsibility. If you install something funky, the hosting provider is going to tell you to deal with the person that created what you installed. They're only going to support the basic stuff that they allow you to install. Everything else beyond that is up to you.
For the most part both services come with similar packages and options. In order to see what exactly is on the box you need to look at the hosting providers pricing page.
You pretty much have a choice of hosting on a windows box or a linux/unix box. There's usually a control panel so you can create email addresses yourself and a few databases if you want. With the control panel, it sometimes makes it easy to hit a button and install a shopping cart because most hosting providers offer this to their clients, it's a fairly turnkey process.
mod note: let's keep it civil, people. brasilfan may not have done the brightest thing posting about this, but we're in no position to know what, if any, consequences there are from him doing so.
Brasil's original post seems to have been made when the site was still up. 9 minutes later the site was down, and it has remained that way since. There was another thread about this in Porn News/Press Release, and judging from the times on those posts it appears that the RLD site had been corrupted for at least an hour before Brasil started this thread. Incidentally, XXXPorntalk is talking about this too, but they are responding to this very thread so their conversation didn't start until an hour after the sites had gone down.
RLD better be in the process of contacting any and all of the performers whose personal information was violated earlier tonight. But, frankly, that's not enough. There was plenty of rhetoric about 2257 opening the door even wider to stalkers and the govt. flat out not giving a shit about that. Maybe this will shed some light back on that. However, that's ultimately a cop out. Whether it was an anonymous hacker into the server or an inside job, RLD royally fucked up here (outside of the obvious) in ways several others have pointed out.
Kami, I only suggest that identity theft is a possibility in addition to personal safety concerns. It's a crime that can be perpetrated from anywhere in the world, and it can make your life hell for years and years. So I'd take precautions with my money, plus with my personal security.

i clicked, it worked. he's not exactly using the past tense about the stuff being up, the post was bascically OMG! NAMES! LOOK AT THIS LINK WHILE IT'S HOT!
the guy just wasn't thinking, maybe it wasn't intentionally malevolent but neither is falling asleep at the wheel and waking up with a kid stuck in your bumper. mistakes are different than gross-carelessness man. nothing personal.
It's probably just Usama who's pissed off... the pathetic 'These colors don't run' bullshit as intro to RLD movies is very offensive even to me (besides, it looks totally unprofessional...)
From how I'm reading the bullshit law, you just have to keep the records at an actual address and have them available for review at certain times. Meaning they can come to that address to review the records of the ages of the performers. I'm not seeing how it has to be available online. If the DOJ wants to investigate, they need to come to a physical address and see the records that way. For now that is. Of course, I'm not a lawyer and am not in the business so if I'm totally wrong on this, I welcome corrections.
Though, I'm sure the DOJ will push for all the info to be available to anyone and everyone on the Internet with true names and addresses for the performers....in that way to scare any future and past performers into just not doing anymore porn. Similar to the way how they publish names and addresses of people soliciting prostitutes, in a way to shame them into not doing it. And we know how well that works.
Also, to come here and post this with the "hey, check it out and see people's real addresses!" was kind of a chickenshit thing to do.

instead of talking about male performers and which penises are on your list of ones you find acceptable, why don't you try to pretend to be nice to girls when they've just had everything but their blood-type and key to their house put up on adt for however short a time. how many people were already on rld's preview section at that time? probably not too big an audience, putting it up here(thankfully not for long) probably tripled the number who saw it before the link broke.
Last night, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Red Light District (“RLD”) became aware of a technical problem on its website, clubredlight.com, which resulted in the disclosure of certain model information. Immediately upon learning of this problem, RLD instructed its (ISP) Internet Service Provider to shut down the website, which was promptly done. RLD personnel at all levels, including its IT Department and Legal Department, are in the process of determining the cause and scope of the problem. In the meantime, RLD is contacting all the persons whose information was potentially disclosed to inform them of what happened and offer its assistance.
RLD is committed to insuring the privacy of all of its models and directors, and will take whatever action necessary to address this issue. RLD is sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue, and encourages all parties to contact us if you have any questions or require any assistance.
It would be hard to overstate the possible damage from what happened at RLD, but I think the damage from what happened here probably has been. This thread had fewer than 200 views when I saw it, which was a good hour after it went up. So I'd guess that during the brief window when it might have mattered, it wasn't more than a couple dozen. Not good, but not that bad.
Of course, the original poster didn't know that at the time. So I would still agree that 1) linking to the Red Light site was not smart, but also 2) the problem to be upset about was at RLD, not here, and 3) getting hostile here won't help matters much.

Mature, civilized adults? You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.

obi-i'd seen it right at hardware's post so it was still up for me a few mins past what's being said. i wrote my friendly first missive when it was still a live document, maybe it had even ceased to be in the ten minutes or whatever it took to spit that out.
it's not the number of people we actually sent there, it's about the % increase of exposure to people not visiting there to "browse trailers" well past midnight on monday est. i'll agree with your guess of a couple of dozen we sent there. thast's still several times who was there and the traffic we sent was looking for lists, they were looking for trailers.
out of <100 people ending up there, all it takes is one person hitting "save page". you think nobody did that? the list from this summer's just not up on the two moderated porn boards, it's still floating around and it's not that hard to google. once it's on a drive, it's forever multiplying until people get bored or can't use it.
I don't mind the American flag (as on the great Sly & The Family Stone's album 'There's a riot going on') but that line almost makes me Big Spit all over it... Is that why american people are becoming increasingly heavier, because they don't run?
Then it's kind of ironic that a porn company is behind a president and staff and establishment that would probably just love to kill the entire porn industry if wasn't for that damn 'land of the free' crap...
Who said anything about RLD being behind any president, staff or establishment? Since when did the American flag gain a party affiliation or dictate policy in Washington or abroad?
As I said... the flag I don't mind, that kind of patrotism I'm used to. A dedication to those who died, I wouldn't mind. But 'These colors don't run' means 'I love Bush because he too wants to bomb the shit out of those godless animals!'
"we", kemo sabe? Did you just nuke your street cred?

I'm going to show how mature I am by sanctimoniously refusing to ask everyone to send me the top secret information they saw on RLD. I feel three years older already.
