What's the most creative way you've rekindled a romance in your life? I'd love to hear some ideas.

not creative, but the best way seems to be to get away... rent a cabin in the woods with no tv, no phones - or go camping / backpacking - anything to get away from responsibilities and frusturations.

A case of 5W30, a set of jumper cables, an old saddle, and a half a dozen midgets.

This is just my take on it, but it's not about a one-shot grand gesture or any kind of isolated or contrived event. So, I wouldn't bother with skywriting or bathtubs full of rose petals.

Long relationships run in cycles, and it's important to find the good things about the relationship the way it is right now, and the good things about her as she is right now.

The breathlessness that you feel in romance is your own giddiness, not hers (you can feel giddy even if the other person is unaware of your existence). If you want the breathless feeling, you re-kindle yourself, not her. It's not a thing to do, but an attitude to develop.

When you have that, it shows. You touch her neck when you walk by (expecting nothing in return), you put your book down and look at her when she's talking, you ask if she needs help with what she's doing. Remember when it was like that?

Remember the stuff you used to do that was so much fun? Maybe it was swimming, or going to museums - whatever. Do some of that stuff, but remember that what actually made it fun was your own mood - spontaneous, loose, alive, etc.

Turn off the tv. Take long walks together. Dance in the living room. Massage her feet. But it's not a recipe of things to do, it's the way you have a focus on what she will enjoy.

Something my husband did recently, and typical of him: One night after dark, he put our air mattress out on the deck under the stars, made it up with sheets and blankets, set out a couple of candle lanterns, a small boom box, some romantic cd's, and some hot cocoa for me, and then he came and got me. And here is the important part, if you think you know where this is going - we had both gotten off about a half hour before he started setting it all up. It was about giving and enjoying, not about manipulation.

Not really rekindling, but keeping it going.

Dead of winter, she was 8 months pregnant (not feeling too femiminly beautiful). We drove up in the mountains. I broke trail throught several feet of snow for a few hundred yards to a small clearing in the pine trees I knew about. I spread a lot of blankets on a bench of snow, settled her in, then built a roaring fire. We cuddled down together in the blankets to enjoy the fire, and it was a crystal clear night so we could see the stars at the same time. When the fire died down, we roasted marshmellows on sticks and got our mouths and fingers all gooey.

It was magic.
