Robert Member My past is a foreign country. Most things are different there, including word usage. 503 Posts 12/06	Posted - Jun 1 2012 : 11:14AM I have two avi video files. One has black borders. The other is very narrow. Is there any software (Windows XP) that I can install what will provide the function to remove the black borders and or change the aspect ratio of these video files? [Link]
ninja1 Senior Member 2939 Posts 1/08	Posted - Jun 1 2012 : 12:45PM Changing the aspect ratio to fix those 2 issues will stretch the people (and everything else) unnaturally tall. I think formatfactory has the capability to change aspect ratio, but I have never tried it for that purpose. [Link]

I want to "process" the entire file and produce a new file that contains those changes. Process the avi file with the black borders and produce (create) a an avi file with out those borders. In the second case, produce (create) an avi filet that is a different size (closer to square), which probably involves cutting off the left and right edges to maintain the proper ratio. One fellow suggested VirualDub to remove the black borders. I have the current release of VirtualDub but can't find the function that will do that. [Link]

I'm not sure if it will remove the black bars but there are custom converting options to add the black bars, stretch the video, zoom & crop, and auto adjust. I'm not sure how well these features work. I mainly use this tool to convert WMV video to MP4. [Link]

ChodeMasterJ Perpetual Marxist 5405 Posts 4/03	Posted - Jun 6 2012 : 8:29PM You could stick the file in a dedicated video editor (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, AVID, etc) and crop it to a 16x9 (or whatever) ratio, but if you don't have them they're expensive programs and aren't the easiest to deal with. I clicked around and by trial and error determined how to do it with VirtualDub. The problem, of course, with VitualDub is that it only uses avi files. Fortunately, in this case, that was the file format of the file I wanted to edit. [Link]
ChodeMasterJ Perpetual Marxist 5405 Posts 4/03	Posted - Jun 6 2012 : 8:38PM No worries. Download MpegStreamclip and convert that file to an .avi and then put it in VirtualDub and crop it. Mpegstreamclip is an amaaaazing program that converts anything to anything, really. Very versatile and I use it all the time. Super simple to use, too. Click to expand Thanks for taking the time to address my "problem." I want to be able to do the "edit" in a single step. In any case, Squared5 is joined at the hip to QuickTime. Don't like having Quicktime on my Windows XP PC. It has messed me up many times in the past and long ago I removed it (which wasn't easy) and whenever I'm doing something and up pops an opportunity to download and install the latest release I decline. I use VLC Media Player for MP3 files and that is just to verify that they play. Then I load them to my Phillips Vibe to listen to them. [Link]
