Most things are different there, including word usage. 503 Posts 12/06 |  Posted - Sep 14 2011 : 1:31PMWhen I did a re-install of Windows XP I ended up with version 11 of Windows Media Player. I hate that version. I downloaded from CNET version 9 and tried to install it. As usual, Windows won't let you do what you want to do, only what it wants you to do. I got the error message that tells me I already have a later version of Windows Media Player and I can't install version 9. I tried removing (deleting) the Windows Media Player (version 11) that is on my machine and it wouldn't let me. Another case of not being able to do what I want. Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of (remove) this version 11 of Windows Media Player so I can install version 9?  [Link] |

So, when you were re-installing XP, then upgrading to SP1 or SP2, then upgrading to SP3, then doing a good 100+ updates to your XP SP3 system before it was all over, you installed WMP11. AFTER you have un-installed WMP11, be sure to pay attention to the part about adding the WMP11 update to your "don't show this update again" list. Otherwise, you will keep being prompted/badgered to update to WMP11.  [Link] |

That prevents Windows from "calling home" and checking for XP up-dates, but not Media Player updates (newer versions). Oh, how I hate Windows, let me count the ways. :) [Link] |
